Michael Vick Talks St.Louis Rams And Receives Ed Block Courage Award

Michael Vick wins Ed Block Courage Award and talks about possibly joining the St. Louis Rams.

Michael Vick has to be one of the most controversial figures in NFL history. After serving nearly two years in prison for dog fighting, he still has to spend most of his time revamping his image.

Although everyone may not feel he deserves a second chance at his football dreams, he has still managed to be chosen to receive the Ed Block Courage Award. He received the award Tuesday, and spoke about how much the honor means to him:

“I’m very humbled to be here.I’m blessed to be voted by my peers, to be here, and this is an opportunity that I will take advantage of and cherish forever. It shows I’m making strides. I’m trying to do the right thing.”

Although Vick has been continuously making appearances and working with several non-profit organizations against dog fighting, some people still feel the need to protest against Vick’s attempt to make the most out of his second chance.

Dozens of protesters held signs outside the event with images of Vick with make-up on while chanting for the neutering of the NFL star.

In other news, the Philadelphia Eagles have exercised their 2010 option on Vick, and as a result, he will receive $1.5 million roster bonus sometime this week. While there are whispers that the team might actually trade Vick, he is expected to make $5.25 million in salary with the team.

Meanwhile, Vick has been pretty vocal in wanting to join the Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams. He told ESPN:

“I’m not saying it out of arrogance but out of confidence. I think I can be the difference maker on any team, especially a team like the St. Louis Rams, who need a lot of help and will get it based on their ownership and the general manager (Billy Devaney) they have who is a great guy and I know from Atlanta. I just think bringing the right pieces in, putting the right players in the proper positions and giving them the opportunity to win, I think premier players could turn any team around. Yeah, I’m confident I could do that.”

Regardless of where Vick ends up next season, I still support him. He has served almost two years in prison for a horrible crime, and I am willing to move past it and get back to what he does best…football.
