Oh Really Slim Thug?: Houston Rapper Gives His Opinion On Why Sisters Are Single

By: Taren Vaughan

Everybody thinks they are experts when it comes to Black women. They know why we act the way we do and why we say the things that we say. Swisha House’s Slim Thug has taken his shot as to why African American females often times stand alone. According to Slim, it’s because we don’t know how to be supportive of our men. In an editorial that he did for AllHipHop.com, Slim Thug gave his breakdown on what our “problems” are:

We are not trustworthy:

“It’s hard to trust a Black woman [sometimes] because a lot of Black women’s mind frame is that the man gotta do everything for her⎯ he gotta pay for this, he gotta pay for that,”

So I assume that Slim Thug has been surrounded by gold diggers from time to time? This statement has some truth to it as most rappers are in the midst of females who just want them for their money. But for the average black man, this is not even the situation. On to point number two.

We expect too much out of our men:

“Most single Black women feel like they don’t want to settle for less. Their standards are too high right now. They have to understand that successful Black men are kind of extinct. We’re important. It’s hard to find us so Black women have to bow down and let it be known that they gotta start working hard; they gotta start cooking and being down for they man more.”

So in other words, you want us to kiss the ground that you walk on and lower our standards like any “good woman” should. Basically, you want us not to have a mind of our own and do as you say. It’s not that we don’t know how to support our black men. We just want our voices to be heard while doing it.

In reference to his current girlfriend:

“My girl is Black and White. I guess the half White in her is where she still cooks and do all the s**t that I say, so we make it. She just takes care of me and I like that.”

If you date a woman that isn’t a full fledged sister, you will be A-okay.

What Slim Thug and other men who think like him fail to realize is that these comments can apply to women of ALL races. They are not just limited to sisters. Some of us are alone because we choose to be alone. Not because we are crazy, greedy, scandalous or any of the above. Everyone thinks they have figured us out. It’s a shame that they don’t even have a clue.

  1. I guess he forget to mention that his last black girlfriend LaToya Luckett left him because he got his stripper jump-off pregnant. He isn't in the position to speak for the good black men.
