New England Collects Second Preseason Win

By: Taren Vaughan

Preseason has been going fairly well so far for “The Brady Bunch”, better known as the New England Patriots. Their first victory was against the New Orleans Saints. And this Thursday, they went for another win, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 28-10. The return of Wes Welker was just what the Pats needed to get quarterback Tom Brady going. Brady threw three passes to Welker, one of which was broken up by the Falcons’ defense. One thing is for sure, Tom Brady was definitely making a point, displaying his trust for the wide receiver. Welker was absent from the lineup for 7 months due to a knee injury. And although he is back, Welker feels that he is not quite 100% yet. But there was no doubt that he was ready for some action:

“Getting out there catching balls and getting hit was good,” “It’s a step forward. I’m not sure I’m all there yet.”

Brady didn’t focus on Wes Welker the entire night, as he hit Aaron Hernandez with a 4 yard touchdown pass. The Falcons’ offense was able to make some key plays during the game. But none them resulted in touchdowns, forcing the Falcons to resort to field goal attempts. With similar views of Peyton Manning, Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan didn’t seemed too disturbed by his team’s loss:

“We don’t game plan a lot for these games,” he said. “We’re just trying to improve on some different things, see what we like and don’t like and what we want to take into the regular season.”

Like the Carolina Panthers, the Falcons have had their share of injury woes; rookie Corey Peters and Harry Douglas with knee injuries. Luckily, none of the player injuries appear to be too serious. But is it clear that they have some kinks that they need to work out as far as their offense is concerned.
