New Book Claims Michelle Obama Almost Divorced Barack

New book claims the first couple almost didn’t make it.

Barack and Michelle Obama are one of the most admired couples in the black community. Although we as a people celebrated the arrival of the first black president, there’s not enough words to describe what a first black family has done to the pride of the African American community. When we think of real love and a strong black family unit; most think of the Obamas before we think of anyone else. As a strong, black, and educated family unit; it’s no wonder they have inspired many to continue their quest for their Baracks and Michelles.

But relationships aren’t easy, and maintaining a marriage is difficult for anyone. Even the first black couple.

A new book alleges that Michelle Obama almost divorced Barack in 2000. The couple’s dark moment was supposedly a result of the now 44th President’s unsuccessful run for a House seat in Chicago, despite his wife’s protest.

The run was a disastrous one, and Barack, who unsuccessfully ran against four-term incumbent Bobby Rush, made Michelle Obama furious.

The marriage was a rocky one at this time, as Barack became depressed that a divorce was impending. His friends even worried that he was suicidal.

The book, written by Edward Klein and entitled “The Amateur,” states:

“As a result their marriage was on the rocks, and Obama confided to friends that he and Michelle were talking about divorce. Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up,” Klein claims, citing a friend of the Obamas.”

This marks the second time that an individual has come forth with similar allegations of an almost divorce situation for the couple.

While it is apparent that both Michelle and Obama have moved past such a dark time of their marriage, Barack has had continued success in politics since his defeat to Bobby Rush in 2000. In 2005 he won the senate seat in Illinois, and eventually went on to become the first black President of the United States.

While many are skeptical of the author’s claims, the Obamas have admitted previously to the press that they had dark times in their marriage that they were able to overcome.

  1. This is possibly true. Every couple has problems. We all would like to think that these two are perfect, but they aren’t. But the only thing anyone needs to take away from any of this is that they didn’t do like the average American and get divorced when things got hard. They stayed together and worked out their problems. And that’s what makes them dope.

  2. Both seem like type A personalities to me. So I’m sure they clash, disagree, and even get angry with each other sometimes. I’m glad they worked things out. I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to be in the position they are in.

  3. This may not even be true, but the allegations really make Michelle sound controlling. There’s no need to divorce your husband because he didn’t do what you asked him to do. I’m happy they didn’t go through with it but I just can’t see the logic of drawing up divorce papers over something like that.
