The 2012 Olympics has been pretty epic so far. There are many African Americans looking forward to making history, and this is just a great time for the world to celebrate pure talent and hard working athletes with amazing back stories of how they made their dreams of competing in the Olympics a reality. As we recently reported here yesterday, Gabby Douglas won her first Olympic Gold medal with Team USA. While we are beyond excited that Gabby has done something so amazing at the age of 16, apparently Gabby’s awesomeness wasn’t going to be limited to only team wins, as we’re happy to report that Gabby Douglas has become the FIRST African American Olympic all-around champion.

When asked about how it feels to have made history and be the first African American to win an all-around Gold medal, Gabby says:

“I wanted to seize the moment. I don’t think it has all sunk in yet. Team finals hasn’t sunk in yet. But it will.”

And what she plans to do now:

“I want to celebrate, with my families.”

Meanwhile, silly people took to Twitter and Facebook to talk about her hair. Oh. Of course Gabby isn’t worried too much about people talking about her hairdo, she’s too busy getting congratulatory phone calls from The President of the United States.

Congrats to Gabby.

In more dope news, Drake has revealed what he’s been working on since he’s been so silent after the whole controversy involving a terrible experience at a nightclub with singer Chris Brown. Turns out that the Young Money rapper never finished high school, but he is actually in the process of completing now. He revealed the good news in an interview with NowToronto.com:

“I’m actually spending my summer graduating high school,” admits the rapper on a too-rare visit back home. “That’s my main focus after OVO Fest. I only have one credit left, and I’m really excited about that.”

Good for Drake. We’re glad to see that Drake still wants to get his high school diploma, although rapping has made him filthy rich already. We only wish more rappers would do the same.

  1. I am so proud of Gabby. And she comes from a single parent home! Thanks for showing them that single mothers can raise amazing kids! I just love it!

  2. That’s what I’m talking about! There’s no better way to shut your haters down than then to win a gold medal!!! And that whole hair thing just shows how petty some women can be. I didn’t even pay attention to her hair. Lastly, I’m glad Drake is going back to school. That says a lot about his character. He isn’t a dummy!
