The Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey beef has escalated into a side show and media circus act. After it had first been rumored a few weeks ago that both of the newbie American Idol judges were clashing on the set, a video released showed both Nicki and Mariah cursing at each other after wrapping up an audition. Since then, it’s been claimed by Mariah Carey that Nicki Minaj threatened to shoot her and scares her so much that she had to hire additional security. Nicki followed up Mariah’s claims by dragging her on Twitter the other day, and eventually, even husband Nicki Cannon stepped in and shaded Nicki Minaj himself in an interview. Of course, we find all of this hilarious, especially since those close to producers of the show revealed that the whole beef is manufactured and nothing more than a publicity stunt to save ratings that have been pretty lukewarm for the last couple of seasons.
Regardless of whether or not the Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey beef is real or contrived, just about everyone is speaking out on the situation.
In a recent interview with Anderson Cooper, Queen Latifah gave her two cents on the feud. And she says that although she’s not picking sides, she feels that Mariah’s legendary success in the business should warrant some respect from music industry novice Nicki Minaj.
She says:
“I would definitely not take sides in ignorance or anything like that. But um, I mean cause that’s really not about them. At the end of the day, both of them are very blessed to be in the position they are. And it’s about giving a leg up to the people who want to come along and be a Nicki and be a Mariah. But Mariah, come on now, you talking about 100 million [sales] right there. You have to respect your elders to a point.”

Queen Latifah’s statements seem to confirm some gossip we heard a couple years ago about the older female rappers feeling like Nicki Minaj is disrespectful to others who came before her. And not too long ago, even Missy Elliott said she feels Nicki could be more respectful to other female rappers, especially Lil Kim.
In related news, it looks as if Nick Cannon confirmed the rumors about the whole Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey beef being nothing but a publicity stunt. In a recent interview, when asked how he feels when he heard about the drama, he says:
“I wasn’t concerned. That’s exactly what you called it, it was drama. With drama, it’s theatrics. I’m not worried about that stuff.
And on those rumors about Nicki threatening to shoot Mariah:
“I don’t know. I wasn’t there. It made for good news. It sounded good, right? Good job Fox.”
LMAO thank you Queen Latifah! I am so tired of Nicki respecting legends in the game that will still be around when her a– is NOT.

I think Nicki is just really insecure. She tries to say other female rappers are the insecure ones, but it’s really her. Before Nicki came around, the other female rappers used to do tracks together and settle their problems with diss tracks and kiss and make up later. Since Nicki has been big, she’s caused the most drama. When she falls from grace, she will then see that she should have been more humble.
I agree. She’s had a lot of success. but most people don’t like her because she really has the big head. And she ought to be embarrassed if even Queen Latifah thinks she’s out of line.
And it’s the damn truth. She has to be insecure since she can’t get along with any other female entertainer.
And this is how most people feel. I also think this is why Nicki doesn’t have that many fans that are older. Too many people think she’s overrated and disrespectful to the people that came before her. It’s just very interesting that other female rappers could have success at the same time, but since Nicki has been out, no one can shine but her. What a b-tch.
But didn’t Mariah come for her first though? So because Mariah is a :legend” she can talk to her any kind of way? I don’t think so.
We don’t know what started the “argument”, if you can call it that. That’s not the point. The point is, you don’t see Mariah shouting at Nicki, like the way Nicki is shouting. That’s the reason why a lot of people are upset. If Mariah interrupted her, or started talking over her, the way to handle it is to pull Mariah aside and let her know. Don’t blow up and make yourself look like a disrespectful, ghetto piece of trash – ’cause that’s what everyone is saying about her. Also, as you stated, Mariah is a legend – and for that reason alone, YES, she should be due a lot more respect than what Nicki showed. Nicki owes a lot of her “Hip-Pop” popularity to her predecessors, and that definitely includes Mariah, who really helped bring R&B and Hip Hop into Mainstream music. If Mariah interrupts her, then Nicki should SHUT HER MOUTH and take some notes. Mariah is a woman that has been in the game for 22 years, whereas Nicki has only been around for 5 minutes and already think she’s the queen. I doubt her career lasts that much longer if she keeps this up.
A lot of female rappers and other entertainers feel the same way about Nicki. She’s got a nasty attitude and she has been in the game long enough to act that way. I have a feeling because of her treatment of other female entertainers that she won’t have longevity in the business.
Nicki will NEVER have the kind of success Mariah has had. She won’t even have the kind of success Latifah has had. She’ll see later how bad this publicity stunt made her look. When we saw the video, we only heard Nicki screaming and cursing at Mariah. And now there’s the gun rumors. She looks like a thug and her love affair from white people is ending quickly.
You people in these comments are so sad. Nicki will be fine. And Mariah should respect Nicki first if she wants respect back. The number of albums you have sold does not give you the right to be rude to other people.
I understand what you are saying, but step outside of you stanning, and see where Latifah is coming from. Nicki is only like 3 years in the game and she’s very rude to those that came before her. It’s like Rihanna trying to shade Whitney Houston. It should never happen.
I personally don’t like Nikki she is so fake she doesn’t even have swagg I am one of the blessed ones who grew up when there were real female rappers like lil kim foxy brown Mia x gangster boo lil chat mc lyte. They were real and they aren’t around anymore so why wouldnt her fake plastic know barbies wasn’t even black back in the days she’s just a broke dumb puppet being controlled by the new word order and ill be sure to ask my daughter that is ten years of age is Nikki still around when she gets grown haha stupid clown
