NeNe Leakes is without a doubt one of the biggest reality stars. In just one season, Leakes became the break out star on Real Housewives of Atlanta, as she easily became the house wife too easy to hate. Between all her many beefs with her current and former cast mates, it’s clear that she did not go into reality television just to stay within its realms. Since the show, NeNe has become a certified actress, as she nabbed roles on sitcoms The New Normal and Glee. She also had a stint on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, and it’s clear that she has no plans to slow down anytime soon from the acting bug. So it made sense to the editor of Ebony Magazine to place NeNe on the cover of its Money and Power issue, which mainly focused on money and professional success. But when the cover featuring NeNe holding a champagne class and sitting in a tub of diamonds was revealed, the cover caused more controversy than NeNe and the staff of the publication anticipated.
Plain simple, people were outraged that NeNe Leakes had made the cover of Ebony Magazine, a publication that many African Americans hold in such high esteem. But the reality star made it clear that she felt the outrage was unwarranted. Especially since she feels she worked so hard to get to where she is, and she believes her story should be respected.
But NeNe may have made matters worse and made her point seem void after she compared herself to Kim Kardashian, another reality star that people cite for being famous for being famous, who virtually made wealth with no real work or talents.
In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Leakes says:
“It’s OK for you to go pick up a magazine cover with Kim Kardashian. She’s my girl. We are cool. We talk. We do drinks and all of that. But her story ain’t no different than mine. You know what I mean? I might’ve worked at the strip club, but she made a sex tape.”
Despite the controversy, the editor of Ebony still stands by their choice of putting NeNe Leakes on the cover.
I guess NeNe thinks a sex tape is worst than stripping. LOL.
I wish NeNe would just shut up about this. People don’t want Kim on their magazine covers either. She only gets the covers because she pays for them. That was not a good comparison, nor did it help her case.
Oh NeNe please shut up. The fact that you not only hang with Kim but now compare yourself to her speaks volumes to the fact that you have some major issues. Let it go.
LOL she’s wildin. I respect NeNe’s hustle but she shouldn’t compare herself to Kim if she wants to be taken seriously in Hollywood.
LOL. Great shade NeNe. And the funny thing is, that’s how most people feel about Kim. She will never be able to move past that sex tape.
Sigh…she’s still talking about this? She needs to really let it go. She’s a reality star and most people don’t respect reality stars. She just needs to talk less and focus on her acting career. NeNe is going to have to prove herself. She cares too much about what people think of her.
NeNe and Kim are cut from a different cloth. I’m not sure why she is even trying to compare herself to her. NeNe needs to sit down somewhere.
Come on NeNe. Kim though? You’re better than that.
She can’t be serious?! I think she is a little too hurt by this whole Ebony thing. Move on and let people say what they want. I’m sure Ebony sold a lot of those magazines with her on the cover though. LOL.
NeNe has lost her mind.
Love me some NeNe but she’s going to have to stop hanging around Kim. She’s saying stupid stuff in interviews just like a Kardashian now.
