NeNe Leakes Says Her Up and Coming Acting Career Played a Role in Her Divorce

NeNe Leakes and her former husband Gregg Leakes shocked everyone when they confirmed that were divorcing. NeNe’s rise to fame would be her role on Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the reality star did not stop there. NeNe is now a certified actress, as she landed a recurring role on the hit show Glee and new hit The New Normal. Despite her new found success in Hollywood, NeNe’s marriage took a hit as she continued to rack up the roles. While the whole reason behind the demise of NeNe and Gregg’s marriage has not been revealed, NeNe did suggest that Gregg cheated on her in her recent interview with Ebony Magazine.

Now it appears that there was more to the divorce than just Gregg’s alleged wandering eye. In a recent interview with the ladies of The Talk, NeNe suggested that she and Gregg started to have problems in their marriage when her acting career began to take off. According to the reality star, Gregg’s ego caused a big chunk of their issues.

When explaining what went wrong with her marriage to Gregg, she says:

“Gregg and I have been married for 15 years and we had issues. As you know, I’m on a reality show, and a lot of the times what happens on these reality shows is that women like myself are married to successful men. And you’re like in their shadow. And once you step out into your own shadow and away from theirs, it sometimes starts a little conflict. I’m not sure if Gregg was ready to see me as his wife out in the forefront, making my own money, doing my own thing. That was very difficult for him. And I felt like Gregg wasn’t doing all the things that he needed to do as a husband. And we spoke about that in the [Ebony] article, so I decided to divorce Gregg.

“It wasn’t like I was trying to make him go a certain way. But when you are married, there is a certain amount of respect that I desire.”
