Jay-Z on his way to becoming a certified baseball agent? Jay-Z made some major moves with the recent launch of his company Roc Nation Sports that partnered up with CAA Sports. And it didn’t take long at all for them to get the ball rolling as they were able to snag their first major deal. New York Yankees baseball player Robinson Cano ditched his agent to sign on with Roc Nation Sports and said that he was really looking forward to working with the company, RNS also landing a major deal with NFL star Victor Cruz. Some people in the baseball industry weren’t nearly as thrilled about Cano’s move as he was as the anger erupted over Jay-Z’s attempt to get involved in the professional sports industry. While many were giving Jay-Z his props for taking on other arenas of sports, those in the baseball industry felt that Jay was overstepping his boundaries by trying to get involved in baseball and feel that the Brooklyn native doesn’t know a thing about baseball. Well it looks like Jay-Z isn’t letting the naysayers faze him as he is in the process of becoming a certified baseball agent.

Here’s the report from the Associated Press:

The Major League Baseball Players Association said Friday the rapper’s application to be certified was received a day earlier.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports announced last week they were partnering in the agency business, and Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano was the first client. CAA’s Brodie Van Wagenen replaced Scott Boras as Cano’s listed agent.

Jay-Z currently owns part of the professional basketball team the Brooklyn Nets but may have to give up his ownership as he is said to be in the process of selling his share to avoid any problems in his process of becoming certified by the MLBPA.
