Actor and R&B singer Tyrese certainly has a way with words. In fact, it’s one of the reasons he’s considered one of the most scandalous celebrities to follow on Twitter. While Tyrese does like to tweet a lot about relationships and attempt to motivate his followers, a lot of the times he ends up saying things that many consider to be pretty offensive. The other day he caused outrage when he pretty much said he feels overweight people have earned their weight, and he even called them things like “fat” and “nasty.” Here’s the comments from Tyrese that caused the backlash:

“No two situations are the same. If you are fat and nasty and you don’t like the way you look, do something about it. It’s simple. When you take a shower and you put your fat, nasty body in the shower and by the time you get out, the mirrors are all steamed up so you don’t look at what you did to yourself. That may sound offensive or insensitive but ultimately, you are big as h*ll because you have earned that sh*t. You worked your a** off to eat everything in sight to get big as h*ll.”

“If you got a problem with the way you look, then you need to do something about it. Excuses sound best to the people that’s making them up.”

Tyrese originally took to his Twitter account shortly after the reports to make it clear that he wasn’t going to apologize, and said he wasn’t going to be politically correct because that’s not his thing. He tweeted (read from the bottom up):

Now that the backlash has grown even louder, the actor has now decided to change his mind and apologize for his remarks. He tweets (read from the bottom up):

  1. It sucks he had no clue what he said was bad until the backlash. People have got to do better with how they talk about someone else’s situation.

  2. LOL. I thought he wasn’t going to apologize. Everybody wants to apologize when they think their money is at stake. Smh.

  3. now what the HELL does this man have to apologize for ? Seriously ? People say the WORST things about celebrities ,but do they have to apologize ? No. He should have kept what he said with no apology. If people give up on him, they weren’t there for him to begin with. A person has a right to speak their mind, but when people are offended by certain things, that right is taken away ? You people are all wrong.
What he said was the damn truth. A woman can go to a man and say ” do I look fat in this” and if he says yes, she goes all crazy. Live with the truth smh. This man is in no way, shape or form WRONG.

    1. I agree with you. He was right. People want to believe that big is beautiful, yet truth is that is unhealthy.

    2. So everyone is wrong but Tyrese, yet he’s the one who apologized. You do the math. Even he said the WORDS he used were wrong and insensitive. Would you like someone to degrade you because of your flaw? I know you’re not perfect. You may not be overweight, but you have an issue like everyone else but I’m sure you wouldn’t want someone to be insensitive when they talk about YOUR situation. So please have a seat because you’re just as big of a problem as he is. Difference is he has enough sense to know he was out of line. Hopefully you’ll get there one day or maybe you have to be in the right kind of situation to see how it feels. Judging by the tone of your comment, it’s most likely the latter.

Anyway, his mom is overweight. I doubt he’d ever call her fat and nasty though. Why? Because that’s his mom and he respects her. So he should have the same respect for others. I know plenty of people losing weight but they didn’t need to be called fat and nasty to make the choice to change. Negativity and demeaning people isn’t necessary to prove a point. Intelligent people know that. Bless your heart for not not understanding how to express your point without putting other people down.

      1. ^^#THIS! I’m not sure why it’s so hard for some people to get this?! It’s really simple..treat people & speak to them with the same decency & respect that YOU would want!! I mean really..i was taught that as a young child! I’m really SICK & TIRED of all these ignorant..insensitive..plain RUDE people who feel the need to put other’s down constantly. Heavyset people do NOT need to constantly be told that they are big..they know it VERY well, it’s THEIR bodies! People who are NOT heavy are a lot of times in WORSE physical health than plus size people. Why should people change themselves just because YOU & others have some stupid predjudice against how they look..get over yourselves! If i’m happy..comfortable..confident..accepting of my body, (along with my man) then that’s all that matters! If YOU have a problem with that..it’s NOT RELEVANT to me & my life nor will it EVER be!!
