Chris Smith of Kris Kross Delivers Emotional Speech at Chris Kelly’s Funeral

The passing of Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly, one half of popular ’90’s rap group Kris Kross was a shocking piece of recent news for many Hip-Hop heads all over to hear as the 34-year-old rapper was found unresponsive at his home in Atlanta, Georgia. As Chris Kelly’s passing was so sudden and took many people by surprise, there was much speculation as to what was the root cause behind the rapper’s untimely death, Atlanta police saying that a a drug overdose was the suspected cause behind Chris Kelly’s death, in addition to his mother Donna Kelly Pratte and his uncle saying that Chris had a history of drug abuse. Regardless of what led to Chris Kelly’s passing, many are mourning the tragic loss of the rapper, including his family members, friends and his band mate/best friend Chris Smith. As there are a number of artists who Chris Kelly had relationships with, the bond he had with Chris Smith was a strong one as Chris Smith referred to Chris Kelly as his “best friend” and “brother” in a statement that he issued to The Ryan Cameron Morning Show.

Chris Smith says:

Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother.

I love him and will miss him dearly.

Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together.

It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain
Kris Kross Fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we
wanted to do and what brought us happiness.

I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection.

The funeral service for Chris Kelly was held today in Atlanta, Georgia. And an emotional Chris Smith spoke about his best friend and how his passing has taken a toll on him, Chris Smith barely able to keep his composure while giving his speech.

Opening up his speech, Chris Smith says:

“It’s been like a struggle for me everyday. But you know, this morning when I woke up, this peace came over me because I know Chris is in heaven, with our Heavenly Father.”

Chris Smith then tells Chris Kelly’s mother Donna that she has always been like a mother to him and that he will always be there for her.
