A Lil Mama and Nicki Minaj beef in the works? Female emcee Lil Mama may be busy getting serious in acting and still hosting MTV’s hit “America’s Best Dance Crews, ” but her true love is still Hip Hop. However, music hasn’t been an easy thing for her to pursue and advance in, considering that nowadays female rappers just don’t sell albums unless your name is Nicki Minaj. With Nicki’s massive success and the confirmation she won’t be slowing down any time soon, a lot of the Head Barbie’s critics wonder if she could do a lot more for fellow female rappers. Apparently Lil Mama is one of those people and she even claims Nicki just doesn’t really try to embrace other female rappers despite her claims of trying to succeed and “do this for women.” In a recent interview with The Hollie Wood & Friends Show, Lil Mama opens up about her upcoming role as Left Eye in TLC’s VH1 biopic, the lack of unity among women in Hip Hop, and Nicki Minaj.

On her portrayal of Left Eye in the TLC Biopic, she says:

“I definitely had to audition. I heard about it through my uncle when I came back home to NY. He asked if I was going to audition. When he was saying TLC, I’m thinking the channel TLC, like, ‘What are you talking about?’

“Once I got through the first audition, I could tell they loved me because they called me back to every audition afterwards, which were about three auditions. I just stayed humble. I went through the ropes, read my script. It was one day I read three pages and then the day before they would send me three more pages and I just had to be ready. I think the key to it all was just being ready. They wanted to know could she be ready. ‘If we are off set and I give her three pages and then I say 13 pages, will she be able to pull it off?’ And I was able to pull it off and I was very honored to get that part.”

On what she says is the current lack of unity amongst women in Hip Hop:

“We need to understand that we all have different stories. One of the things that makes me most happy about music is that I can look at a picture and see Da Brat, Missy, Lil Kim and I know Aaliyah is a singer but to see them all in one photo together hugging and laughing and really having genuine love for each other…I want to feel that with my Hip Hop sisters. I feel like we shouldn’t bash each other on records and get in person and talk about how these is no room for another female MC, it’s only me F you. Even with the dudes they will battle and let you know, ‘You not nicer than me but at the end of the day we should be able to get together and enjoy each other.”

And when it comes to Nicki Minaj, Lil Mama called out the Young Money star and claimed she doesn’t embrace other female rappers:

“It’s a lot of underground women who are trying to break through, but on a mainstream level the one person that I really hear on the radio is Nicki Minaj. A lot of times, I hear her say. ‘I do this for women,’ and ‘I’m doing this for all of us,’ while she’s accepting a BET award, but other than that I don’t’ see her embracing any other women. I feel it’s time for female MCs to really start sticking together and start putting out some music.”

  1. Is she serious?! Lil Mama is the same one who took shots at Nicki in a song not too long ago and Nicki just gave props to some underground female rappers in her recent interview. Ugh!

  2. Lil Mama needs to have a seat. She’s speaking out of jealousy. Look, it’s not Nicki’s responsibility to help other female rappers blow up. They didn’t do that for her. Instead she worked her butt off and became a star. You will never eat good if you’re waiting on someone else to feed you. Either you’re going to make moves yourself or be waiting forever.

  3. Lil Mama said the truth. Nicki came in the game trying to shade icons before her. I never liked that about her. Pay homage and be gracious when you are the new one on the block. She didn’t and it’s why Kim doesn’t do her. It’s like she started rapping and being so divisive, it ruined the unity.

  4. Sorry Barbee, but Lil Mama ain’t lying. Nicki is one of the most insecure female rappers I have ever seen. She won’t do a song with another female rapper because she’s afraid she will get out shined. She knows she’s not all that lyrically, so she doesn’t try to collaborate with other women. She’s a fraud.

  5. I see no lies…I’ve said this about Nicki for the longest. Her little fake self hops on stage and always talks about she’s doing her music for other women, but she is one of the most catty chicks on the planet. The best female rappers in the game have all done collabs with other female emcees. But not Nicki, nope, she’s too scared she will get outdone.

    1. “The best female rappers in the game have all done collabs with other female emcees. But not Nicki, nope, she’s too scared she will get outdone.” >>>>> THIS.

  6. Lil Mama is on point. I don’t hate Nicki but she came in on some division ish. I never liked the little shots she took at the other female rappers that paved the way for her.

    1. LOL. You are a mess. I like Lil Mama though. She’s a good kid and gets dragged for no reason in my opinion.

  7. It’s amazing to me how jealous these other female rappers are of Nicki’s success. They want to try so hard to blame her for their demise. It’s not her, it’s YOU. And if I’m not mistaken, didn’t they go after Nicki first on wax? The underground female rappers stay shading her too. I wouldn’t collaborate with them either.

  8. It’s true. Nicki doesn’t do anything positive for the game. Never has, never will. It’s all about self with her.

  9. I can’t agree with this. Why is it Nicki’s responsibility to embrace other female rappers when they didn’t even embrace her?

  10. Nicki Minaj is damned if she do, damned if she doesn’t.. lol

Lil Mama has NEVER been here for Nicki. Like most female rappers, who have expressed their disdain for her in some sort of way, whether it be about her attitude, direction of music, etc., but she can’t understand why Nicki wouldn’t want to collaborate in the name of female… unity? Oh.

We’re all entitled to like/dislike artists, people, etc., but stand by how you feel. Regardless of however you feel about Nicki, she doesn’t make it a point to discuss these women, but has always been polite or given some sort of credit to other female rappers in the press, whether you believe it’s genuine or not. That doesn’t mean that she HAS to work with these women. Is that necessarily wrong? Especially when you’re fully aware about how these women feel about you? Because if you don’t agree with how someone obtains their status, why would you even entertain the thought of collaborating with them?

  11. lil kim just hatin cause niki got more songs than her she just want nicki to sweat but she aint this just make nicki stand out even more so lil kim do something for me and shut up
