Deion Sanders defends Riley Cooper amid backlash over “N-Word?” The use of the “N-Word” always seems to cause a stir among members of the African American community as many people have different opinions when it comes to the word and what it means to them. Some people admit to using the word on a pretty frequent basis and claim they feel as though the word has taken on a totally different meaning than the one it had many years ago. And they are even okay with their friends who are not black freely using the word. On the other hand, there are those individuals who have made it clear that they are not fans of the “N-Word” at all and can’t stand to hear black people casually tossing the word around in conversations.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper is catching a lot of heat over a comment he recently made at a Kenny Chesney concert where he yelled out the “N-Word” in the midst of a conversation and was caught on camera doing so. Riley Cooper has since apologized for using the racial slur and is taking some time away from the team to undergo counseling.

While his teammates appear to be split on how they feel about the wide receiver’s comment, Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders is giving his two cents about the situation as he had a few things to say about the Riley Cooper controversy. The former NFL star took to his Twitter account and spoke on the backlash Riley Cooper has been receiving over his use of the “N-Word” and he feels people are being too judgmental of Riley as they probably use the word themselves (Read from top to bottom):

What do you think about Deion Sanders’ comments? Are people being too judgmental of Riley Cooper or was he completely out of line period?

Speak on it.

  1. This man is an idiot. Any man who dates Tracey Edmonds used up a-s doesn’t need to be taken seriously. Her nickname should be the “clean up woman.” Are you getting a divorce? Call Tracey, she’ll do you.

  2. But he “throws stones” at his ex wife all the time. He’s a saint when it’s convenient and a demon when no one is looking.

  3. Why am I not surprised? Funny, because earlier today I was thinking about Charles Barkley’s statements about the Zimmerman verdict and it occurred to me that he (and now probably Deion) suffers from dumb jock syndrome. Add to that the fact that pro athletes have lived pretty sheltered lives in terms of being treated differently (i.e. privileged) from high school on up due to their athletic abilities and it’s not hard to understand how people like this can be so out of touch with racial realities. Being millionaires doesn’t hurt either. This isn’t to excuse their ignorance only to say that I can’t get worked up over it considering the source(s).

  4. But what’s wrong with what he said? We are all walking contradictions and Deion never stated that he was perfect. It’s about the message and not the messenger.

  5. Deion needs to shut up. Quick to defend the ignorant jock. And is Deion automatically assuming that the black person that made the twitter comment uses the N word also because they are black? News flash Deion, not ALL black people use that word.

  6. PrimeTime baby! Thank you for speaking on this and saying what I’ve been saying for a week! Leave the guy alone or stop letting white people by Jay-Z records, you can’t have it both ways…
