Lil Wayne talks about seizure scare and says he’s done drinking syrup? Lil Wayne’s career is still going strong however the rapper has battled several bouts of controversy. Lil Wayne caught a huge amount of heat for the offensive lyric he spit on Rapper Future’s “Karate Chop” remix referencing the brutal beating and killing of Emmett Till. As Future felt Wayne’s lyric made Emmett Till relevant, the vast majority of people who heard Lil Wayne’s lyrics were highly upset with the rapper especially Emmet Till’s family members. The controversy ended up causing Wayne to lose out on millions as he lost his endorsement deal with Mountain Dew over the lyric. Lil Wayne appears to be taking a little more caution with the things he raps about these days but doesn’t mind throwing a jab or two at other rappers. Losing million dollar endorsement deals became the least of Lil Wayne’s worries as the rapper suffered several seizures awhile back that landed him in the hospital. Despite conflicting reports on the status of his health, Wayne was eventually released from the hospital and returned home to his family.

Lil Wayne previously spoke about his recent seizures and revealed that he suffers from epilepsy. During his interview with Katie Couric, Lil Wayne opened up more about his seizures and says he found out that other relatives in his family have suffered from and even died from seizures:

“We found out that I’m sorta epileptic. What we had to do was go back in history, meaning like go back to my past… We had to keep going and we found out that one of my close cousins suffers from seizures real bad and one of them actually died from them.”

On the speculation about the syrup he was drinking being the cause behind his seizures, Lil Wayne says:

“I asked my doctor and I said, ‘Doctor, I haven’t been drinking nowhere near to where you would be catching seizures from it.’ He asked ‘Well what else have you been doing?’ And I’d been taking pain pills [at the time] and we found out those pain pills consist of codeine as well, so the lack of drinking the codeine the way I did drink it (or taking the pills), it’s kinda like a reaction like you’re stopping a drug…No, I can’t [drink syrup anymore.]”

The rapper also says his doctor told him while they couldn’t tell him what to do, they suggested his mother Jacita be the one to tell him to stop drinking syrup:

“I was doing it [drinking syrup] too much and the doctor kinda told me, ‘We can’t tell you what to do but I suggest that your mom tell you to stop.’ She did [tell me to stop.]”

  1. I may not believe him, but I hope he can make a change. I may not care for his music, but I’d hate to read an article about him passing from his lifestyle habits.
