Karrueche Tran is no stranger to backlash considering she’s the on and off girlfriend to Chris Brown and a favorite target of Rihanna’s Navy, but she ended up starting a pretty serious controversy after she appeared to make a pretty insensitive joke about the late singer Aaliyah.
A few days ago, Karrueche posted to Instagram a snap of a new coloring book which featured Aaliyah and her caption had some folks thinking she was trying to throw some inappropriate shade (screen shot obtained by Jason Lee):
Karrueche says she was just showing off her new coloring book, but some people thought she was making fun of the fact that Aaliyah died in a plane crash.
She got dragged so bad in the comment section that she deleted the photo, but she did explain to blogger Jason Lee on Twitter that she didn’t mean to offend anyone (read tweets from top to bottom):
Considering how nasty people are nowadays on social media, I can see why people thought she was trying to make fun of Aaliyah’s death. But i’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt on this one.

This was not in good taste. People have to start thinking about things before they post them to Instagram.

I think this one is being read into too much. I think people just hate her really bad that whatever she says gets scrutinized to the fullest. I don’t think she meant any harm
I guess I would have received the same backlash – because if it was me and I saw a coloring book with Aaliyah on it my reaction woulda been something like “hell YEAH – when did they make these?!?!?”. And I would have posted it to. How can you make fun of someone dying on a plane when YOU’RE GETTING ON A PLANE? Who does that?
