One would think Rick Ross would have learned his lesson about controversial rap lyrics after he lost his Reebok endorsement as a result of spitting rhymes that many suspected were referencing date rape. But now the rapper is once again under fire, and this time it’s because of his lyric about Trayvon Martin.

On the track “Black & White” he raps:

Too close to a ni**a as a mother**king bomb
Trayvon Martin, I’m never missing my target
B*tch ni**as hating, tell me it’s what I’m parking
Wingstop owner, lend me pepper aroma
Young, black ni**a, barely got a diploma

After Rick Ross got slammed back and forth on social media, he then issued the following statement to VIBE on Wednesday to clear up the backlash:

“It’s so important that today, on the two-year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, we never forget that tragedy. I’m never going to let the world forget that name. In my song ‘Black and White’ off Mastermind I say, ‘Trayvon Martin, I’m never missing my target’. There I’m reminding people that if you’re a black person or a person of any color for that matter in this country, you have to be accurate, whatever moves you make, stay accurate. Even when you’re walking down the street, playing music from your car, you have to stay on point.

“Black men are being killed and their killers [are] beating the trial. It hasn’t been this much violence against black men since the ’60s. I am Trayvon Martin, we’re all Trayvon Martin. He was from South Florida. That could have been me or one of my homies. So, stay alert and never miss your target. Whatever that target may be. Getting out the hood, providing from your family. Stay sharp. Stay alive. Trayvon, Rest in Peace.”

  1. What the hell? Rick Ross is such a despicable attention whore! He will literally say anything to bring attention to his non talented azz!

  2. Rick Ross is eating away what’s left of his career with these insensitive lyrics. He doesn’t have to worry about me buying any more of his music that’s for sure.

  3. If these rappers had any respect for Trayvon’s parents, they would leave his name out of their music. Some subjects should be left alone.

  4. The nerve of this POS to sit his fat a-s in that fur coat I’m sure black folks paid for by supporting his ignorant a-s over the years when he has no respect for Trayvon Martin and his parents.

    1. esp our men. how do you think we were the perfect candidates for slavery? history repeats itself through the character of our black men repeating itself.

  5. This is how I know he didn’t really understand why he caught so much backlash for the whole date rape thing. He really doesn’t care about anyone but himself. He’s a despicable human being.

  6. Welp, I’m glad I never purchased a Rick Ross album in my entire life. I’ll continue to not spend any money on him as well.

  7. If he had any respect for Trayvon’s parents he would remove the lyric from the song, issue out a REAL apology and donate money to Trayvon’s charity. But I’m sure he won’t do any of those things.
