It was rumored for months that Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay were all contenders for the upcoming Super Bowl Half Time performance, and some even suspected Rihanna was the favorite. However, when she had that very public beef with CBS, some of her fans began to question if it would interfere with her chances.

Now that Katy Perry is reportedly the artist performing for the upcoming Super Bowl Half Time show, industry insiders are claiming Rihanna’s Twitter lashing of CBS cost her the gig.

Deadline writes:

Pop diva Katy Perry has landed the halftime show gig at Super Bowl XLIX in February. Not a huge surprise: She and Rihanna had been considered the frontrunners for the February 1 show, and when Rihanna got into a brawl over the use of a tune she’d sung for the NFL’s Thursday game openers, it was widely assumed that relationship has soured.

  1. Well it’s the risk you take when you do speak up for yourself unfortunately. But I damn sure don’t want to see no damn Katy Perry though.

  2. I knew this would happen. I would have preferred to see Rihanna over Katy but politics are always at play. Knowing Rihanna, she doesn’t give a damn. At least she stayed true to herself.

  3. Rihanna doesn’t understand that sometimes keeping it real can go wrong. She went about this the wrong way. You don’t curse out the network on Twitter. The NFL peeped game and she lost her chance.

    1. Not everyone is willing to sell out if the message is important to them. Rihanna needed to stand up for herself, even if it meant losing a SB performance. She can always drop another platinum album and force the NFL to come back with an offer next year. I don’t believe for a second that she won’t eventually get the chance.

  4. “If you don’t stand up for something, you’ll fall for anything…” I think she’ll be fine. She didn’t sell her soul for that gig, and that speaks volumes.

  5. I think she was smart enough to understand speaking out would jeopardize her chances, but she felt saying something was more important in the long run. And she’s absolutely right. Besides, they will eventually ask her to do it because she’s one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. People want to see her.

  6. She made $140 mil from her last tour selling out stadiums. I don’t see how much of a difference the Superbowl would make.
