R&B singer Teyana Taylor has found love with Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert, but the NBA player says they haven’t found love with FOX’s smash hit “Empire” because they feel the writers copied off their relationship for the basis of Hakeem Lyon and Tiana’s brief romance.
Iman tells Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group:
“They’re using my girl’s character, her style, her look and she’s not getting anything for it. They didn’t even change her name. They could have at least let my girl audition for the part instead of stealing her character completely.
“And come on man, they’re really using a guy with a flat top like me. Come on. That’s ridiculous. They never called us. We were blindsided. We found out by our family and fans when the show aired.
“I don’t see how they can deny it. Everybody knows.”

Actually, Tiana and Hakeem were inspired by Rihanna and Chris. Rihanna had the big curly hair/weave in the beginning of her career and everyone felt like them dating was good for their images when they were younger. I’ma need for Mr. Shumpert to humble himself. Instagram likes doesn’t mean you’re a star.

I think people are being delusional. Everyone and their momma thinks this show is about them or inspired by their life. But the show is popular so I guess people just want to be attached to it somehow.

Please. Anyway, I believe that the actors are wonderful at portraying their characters; when I watch Hakeem and Tiana, I think of Hakeem and Tiana, the fictional characters. The thought of real people, couples, etc., are not in my mind. But that’s just me 🙂
