Nicki Minaj had somewhat of an awkward Twitter beef with Taylor Swift after she expressed she’s not happy “Anaconda” didn’t receive a Video of the Year nomination from the VMAs, but the rapper claims the beef is over and she actually spoke to Taylor on the phone to squash it.

She tells Good Morning America:

“We spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It’s over you guys.

“I posted something on my Instagram and it just showed the stats of other videos that had been nominated previously and there just seemed to be a little funny business going on. ‘Anaconda’ had such a huge cultural impact and, on top of that, we broke the Vevo record…

“I do think if it was one of the pop girls, there would have many nominations for it. “I think that we just have to have both images for girls. We can’t have only one type of body being glorified in the media because it just makes girls even more insecure than we already are.”

On Taylor’s phone apology, Nicki says:

“She was, you know, super, super sweet and she apologized. You know, look I didn’t understand the big picture of what you were saying but now I get it.’

“Everyone sometimes speaks out of turn, you know, I’ve been there. Sometimes we do things and we don’t think right away or we don’t investigate and we just talk so it was big of her to come out and say that.”

  1. Here comes my unpopular opinion: Anaconda was not amazing, nothing was groundbreaking . We saw Nikki’s butt…. A plastic one that we’ve seen over and over again….

W/ that being said- I understand what she’s saying & I’m glad that she used her platform to bring awareness to this issue.

  2. I hate that she backed down from the racial aspect of all of this but whatever. I understand why she did.

    1. I was thinking the same thing girl. She backed away from that with the quickness. I would respect her more if she didn’t. Now I’m giving her a major side eye.

  3. Taylor apologized because she lost the fight. Black Twitter got her together and even bigger media outlets knew better than to side with Taylor when race relations are the way they have been.

  4. I don’t like Taylor….she has always came off to me as a phony lil hoe…I think she done been with more dudes than Rihanna but people drag Rihanna and call her all types of Thots. In regards to Anaconda…..Sex is gloried everyday, everywhere we go…so yeah them not nominating Nicki’s hard work……out is a blatant slap in the face…cuz if she was Iggy she probably would’ve gotten nominated

  5. I still think all of this was just a set up for people to watch the VMAs. And I’m still NOT watching. The only award show I watch now is BET. #sorrynotsorry

  6. I’m not really a Nicki fan but those tweets were the God honest truth. If more black artists spoke out, they could have an impact on things.

  7. Are we going to just skim over the fact that she said, “Anaconda had a huge cultural impact?” Am iImissing something here??

    1. Right? Huh? Girl, I like Nicki And all but stop Anaconda was just WHACK all around. You lucky it got nominated at all, and why does she care about a VMA so much??? The same WHITE ppl that didn’t nominate you and you want their approval? Bye

    2. Right..huge cultural impact? Ok Nicki ? if you say so.
That bs song and video sexualized black female bodies just like the other bs rap **** out today. When they need a-s get a bw when they need beauty they get an other. Foh Nicki.
