Mo’Nique Checks Steve Harvey & Sheryl Underwood + Exposes Lee Daniels

Mo’Nique said she would address the controversial words she had for Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Lee Daniels in her podcast and she has.

In fact, she and her husband Sidney broke down just why she isn’t on good terms with either.

Here’s the highlights from the podcast.

Mo’Nique says Oprah called Sidney to talk to her about inviting her brother (the one who molested her) on the show. She wanted Mo’Nique to come on the show too, but Mo’Nique refused. They then had an hour-long conversation about having toxic relationships with family members, and Mo’Nique revealed that she also isn’t on good terms with her mother. Oprah never told Mo’Nique that her mother and father would be on the show too. Mo’Nique feels like that was very dirty of Oprah:

“So after we watched the show, I get home, lo and behold, who calls? Oprah Winfrey. Now I’ma tell y’all something as to why I understand scared n*ggas because when she called, I got butterflies in my stomach. I knew this sister was wrong and out-of-order for what she did because b*tch you got my momma on your show…but I was caught up in…’that’s Oprah Winfrey.’

“So when she called, she never said Mo’Nique I want to apologize baby that your momma was there, nothing…it was, ‘can you believe it? And then your dad…oh my God!’ I didn’t check it. So when I hung up my phone, my husband, some would call hm Billy Bad A*s, my husband looked at me and said, ‘that’s not where we come from. And you know that woman was out-of-order and you’re going to have to deal with that because you can’t play along with that game.’”

“And I said, ‘you know what, Daddy? You’re absolutely right.’”

The actress revealed that the next time she had a conversation with Oprah, Oprah told her she didn’t know her mother and father were going to be on the show. But she and her husband didn’t buy it because they’ve done a talk show on BET and were always informed of the guests well ahead of filming. She told Mo’Nique she would look into it and call back but never did. But Mo’Nique ran into her at Alfre Woodard’s house at an Oscar party and confronted her, again:

“When I see her, she walks in, we both connect eyes. She knows in that moment, we gon have a situation sis.

“I simply walked up to her, we met at the couch. We sat down and I said, ‘We need to have a conversation, right?’ Now this is when it all gets tricky for me. She pats me on my leg and says, ‘we sure do.’ Now remember when Bernie Mac said about his little niece, how that b*tch looked at him like he was short? She played me like I was short. She patted me on my leg and said, ‘we sure do.’ And I said, ‘ok, that’s how we’re gonna do this?’”

Mo’Nique says that at the party, more prominent black actresses were there who had either been nominated for an Oscar or won one. Angela Bassett was there, Loretta Devine and Lupita Nyong’o was there. Lupita was up for an Oscar at this time, and they all went around the room and gave her words of encouragement. After Mo’Nique told Lupita to do things her way, she looked at Oprah and told her that she looked up to her as a child so it was hurtful to see her invite her mother on her show knowing the things she told her.  Mo’Nique said this in front of the other actresses. Oprah said:

“If you think I did something to offend you, I want to apologize.”

While she isn’t blaming Oprah for the issues in her family, she feels like Oprah exploited her personal issues for her show and it wasn’t cool. Sidney brings up the fact that Barbara Walters, a white journalist, publicly said she refused to give Mo’Nique’s brother an interview because she felt it was wrong morally. So for Oprah, a black journalist, to do it was just wrong on so many levels.

The subject then switches up to Lee Daniels.

Sidney recalls an interview that Lee praised Mo’Nique but claims it was never published because he threw some shade at Oprah.

“There is an interview that is hidden, it’s a lost interview that Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels did on the couch at the Sundance Film Festival. He was asked what was it like to work with Mo’Nique. I beg of you, you guys that are listening to push for that. They said, Lee Daniels said, it was amazing working with Mo’Nique. And he gave her so more incredible adjectives. But the one thing that made it a lost interview, is he cut it and said that Mo’Nique is the black version of Oprah Winfrey. The question I would pose to you good folks is what did he mean by that?”

When it comes to Tyler Perry, the issue is he saw the director of Mo’Nique’s film, “Almost Christmas” recently out in Vegas, and asked how it was like to work with Mo’Nique because she was difficult to work with. When the “Almost Christmas” director said she was professional and amazing to work with, Tyler then corrected himself and said the never worked with Mo’Nique before, but he heard she was difficult to work with. Sidney adds that Tyler doesn’t even like Lee Daniels, but tolerates him because of his success.

Mo’Nique also had some words for Sheryl Underwood.

Sheryl made some comments on “The Talk,” and said that she was concerned for her friend Mo’Nique but Mo’Nique thinks it wasn’t genuine. But she really didn’t appreciate what she feels was shade Sheryl threw at Sidney.

“Now Sheryl, I’m not sure who you were referring to as Billy Bad A*s. I’ma assume you were talking bout my husband. And what I would ask you is, who’s your Billy Bad A*s? What’s your husband’s name? What’s your man’s name? See, I understand when my sisters are looking at me like, ‘oh, how you gon let your husband do that?’ But all the ones saying it don’t seem to have one. All the ones seems to be saying it seem to be by themselves and they have so much to say.”

She also accused Steve Harvey of being phony to and fake concerned:

“Steve, when did you call me to say, ‘Mo what’s going on?’ When did you pick up the phone to say I want to get it from my sister?

“And then when I also hear you say, ‘you know, me and Oprah friends too.’ When did this happen?”

  1. I’m not saying she wasn’t done wrong by all three, but at what point does she stop talking about this?

  2. Mo is clearly too real for Hollywood and I appreciate that. I will continue to root for her.

    1. Real how??? Jus asking..i saw her talking about it on tmz..it seems to me her husband is pulling those reigns..she couldn’t speak for herself without him practically cutting across speaking for her etc..smh..shes burning bridges..its not what you say but how..

  3. I get what her issue is. My thing is, why not call them up on the phone, arrange a meeting and sit down and talk about it to each other about it. Why is that people have to use social outlets to let people in on your personal trials. All 4 are prominent black people in the industry. When are we going to stop all this foolishness in front of the world. You may never know when you will need that person. For me, I don’t like it. This reality method is a bit much.

    1. Crystal thank you…don’t understand how any of that sh-t is going to be beneficial but whatever

  4. I wish she would shut the hell up. And she needs to stop letting her husband hype her up about sh-t all the time. He’s not going to stop until she really is blacklisted.

  5. You don’t come for Oprah… I’m not cosigning this effery. I never thought she was a good actress. I believe that’s she does have a bad attitude. It shows!!

  6. There’s a back story and Monique and her husband have requested Tyler, Oprah, and Lee call them and talk about the real issue. After the whole comedy thing Tyler Perry finally did. And he admitted to Monique that she has been done wrong. However, he wouldn’t say it in public because he has a movie coming out and it would cause too much controversy. Monique can choose to play their game but I applaud her for standing up for what’s right. Now all of these black actors and actresses are speaking in cirlces because they don’t want to express too much of an opinion in fear of the same backlash. Sad. The story that Monique said on her podcast was of an African American All Star baseball player named Curt Flood who refused to be traded because his contract was up and he wanted to be a free agent. The league wouldn’t allow it so Curt went to his lawyer and filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball. His lawyer warned him that this might mean that he will never play baseball again and Curt said
“Will this help future players?” The lawyer said yes and Curt went ahead with the lawsuit. This main was an ALL Star but he died broke because he stood up for what was right, and he was ok with that. Stand for something…
