K. Michelle Sued

K Michelle was recently hit with a lawsuit for her restaurant, “Puff & Petals.”

A former chef claims in documents filed that the R&B singer never paid him for overtime.

The Jasmine Brand writes:

Anwar Molette sued K. Michelle and River Lee Holdings LLC in a Georgia court. River Lee Holdings is the company which owns and operates a restaurant known as Puff & Petals Lounge in ATL, which K. Michelle owns.

Molette explains he was employed by Michelle as sous chef at the restaurant. He says while working there he was paid a flat rate per week, no matter the number of hours he worked.

The suit claims Molette often worked in excess of 40 hours per week. He accuses Michelle of not paying him any overtime. He is suing K. Michelle for violating labor laws and for his unpaid wages and overtime.

      1. I don’t think Johnnie actually worked at OLG though. He says he came up with the concept and was more like a business partner.

    1. Viv I’m pretty sure River Lee Holdings LLC is K. Michelle’s holding company for the restaurant jus like the article says.

  1. Sounds like he was paid salary which would not give you overtime. Usually when your paid salary you make more than the average hourly wage but the downside is you will have to work more hours and not get paid overtime for those extra hours.

  2. Salaried employees can work over 40 with no extra pay, hourly employees are entitled to overtime if they go over 40. Chefs are generally not salaried employees unless that was negotiated up front. Most restaurants avoid paying overtime because they cut the labor before an employee accrues any overtime hours due to natural decline in business as the day goes on. He may have a case if his employee contract is not salary.
