‘The Quad’ Recap: Eva Gets Arrested + Sydney Develops Interest in Jason

Eva has a nasty encounter with the police.

Eva gets checked out by the paramedics and is told that she didn’t suffer from cardiac arrest. They believe she’s just dealing with intense stress.

On the way to a meeting, she is pulled over by police officers.

One of the cops asks her if she’s lost because they know that she isn’t from around there.

She is then asked if she’s under the influence and a cop demands her to step outside of the car.

Eva refuses and threatens to report him to his superior.

The cop begins to drag her out of the car and she pushes him down to the ground. His partner pulls a gun out on her and demands she puts her hands in the air.

She is shocked as she is handcuffed.

Cecil does an interview on campus and tells the reporter that he plans on winning the next Battle of the Bands.

The reporter then interviews Ebony, and Cedric joins her. Ebony feels some kind of way when she learns that Cedric hasn’t declared a major yet.

On the yard, Sydney runs into Eva’s former boo Jason. They plan to meet up later.

Back at Cedric’s room, he hangs out with his girlfriend while studying. He asks her to listen to his new song and she obliges.

She listens to it and then tells Cedric she didn’t know he was still writing songs about his ex girlfriend who was murdered.

This angers Cedric and he tells her she has no idea what he had to go through losing his girlfriend to violence.

She gets angry and leaves after reminding him that she’s lost people too.

At the police station, the police are still being rough with Eva. She is taken to a room and handcuffed to a cot and sedated.

“Hold her still.” – An officer

Eva’s old boo Jason meets up with Sydney on campus. They sit on a bench and flirt.

“You’re beautiful.” – Jason

Jason brings up the fact that she was raped and asks her how she’s doing. She tells him she’s still working through it and trying to process everything.

He says she can use a friend more than she could use a date.

She agrees and says Madison hasn’t been much of a friend to her.

The reporter on the yard tells the students that Eva was arrested recently and unfairly.

The frat guy Sydney spent time with recently, Miles, walks up to Sydney and Jason and shows them video of Eva being arrested.

Jason volunteers to take Sydney to the police station. Miles looks on in jealousy.

At the police station, Eva asks why she hasn’t been allowed to make her one phone call.

One of the police officers who arrested her continues to taunt her and doesn’t allow her to make her call.

At band practice, Cecil is hard on the drum majors. They get on the saxophone players for sounding off key. Cecil kicks a few of them out.

He gets on one band member for being on the phone and they show him that Eva was arrested.

Sydney makes it to the police station. She thanks Jason for dropping her off.

“Let me know if you need anything.” – Jason

Eva meets with the attorney recommended by the DA.

She tells him that she plans to go to court and fight against officer who arrested her.

She demands that the footage from the dash cam be reviewed immediately because she is a victim of police brutality.

Cedric an Ebony have a moment.

Ebony and Cedric watch the video of Eva’s arrest. Cedric is immediately angered.

“Sh*t is crazy…they killing us E.” – Cedric

They both vent about the frustrations of being black in America.

Cedric tells Ebony how supportive Eva has been to him since he’s been at the university.

Ebony recalls that Eva came to the hospital to check on her after her hazing incident.

She suggests Cedric puts his anger into his music. He agrees.

He makes plans to go to the police station and Ebony offers to go with him. They then share a kiss after he tells her that he’s single now.

They then sleep together.

While in the waiting cell, another woman threatens Eva and demands she takes her shoes off. Eva refuses and says that she is not having it because “she’s tired.”

This doesn’t make the woman back off and Eva points out that it’s not a good look that black women fight in a holding cell.

The woman doesn’t seem to be moved by this and tells Eva she plans on selling the shoes.

So Eva promises to just give her the shoes once she is bailed out.

When Cedric gets back to his dorm, his now ex girlfriend is there waiting on him. She apologizes and tells him she realizes she was being insensitive.

She realizes he’s wearing the same clothes he had on the other day and smells different.

“So you not gon’ tell me? I guess we’re really done here.” – His girlfriend

She storms out.

Ebony and Cecil see each other on the yard. Ebony is short with him and he asks if she’s still playing the saxophone. He tells her a spot is open and he wants her back in the band.

This angers Ebony and she reminds him that she almost died while being in the band and she still suffers from headaches.

Eva gets out and mean mugs the cop who arrested her. She hugs Sydney who questions why she’s not wearing shoes. Eva tells her she doesn’t want to talk about it.

She walks out of the police staton and is greeted by protesters and local reporters with questions.

Cedric tells them to back off.

Eva gets a phone call from the DA and is warned that Eva’s case may end up on her desk.

While watching the local news, Eva sees that a lot of the community doesn’t seem to support her. She stresses that this is the reason why she wants the footage from the dash camera.

She takes some medication with some alcohol.

Miles, the fraternity member, runs into Madison on campus and asks about Jason. He’s worried that Sydney may be moving too fast with Jason. Madison says she doubts they are sleeping together but she doesn’t want to anger Sydney by talking to him.

Ebony’s dad comes to the campus to check on her. She tells him that Cecil asked her to return to the band.

The angers him and they then start talking about Cedric. He knows Ebony likes him and jokes that they should go on a road trip so he can interrogate Cedric.

Later that evening, Ebony’s dad goes by to pay Cecil a visit.

He reminds Cecil that Ebony was beaten into a coma and Cecil should be thankful the school wasn’t sued.

Cecil says he regrets turning a blind eye and he wants to make things right.

He thought offering her a spot back in the band would be therapeutic for Ebony, her father warns Cecil to leave Ebony alone.

Jason comes by Sydney’s room to discuss Eva’s run in with the police. He massages her back.

“It feels good. I feel like we’ve known each other forever.” – Sydney

Madison interrupts and Jason decides to leave.

Madison tells Sydney that she and Miles are worried she’s moving too fast with Jason. Sydney gets angry and tells her to mind her business.

She leaves.

Eva and Cedric talk and he tells her that he’s really upset about what happened to her. She doesn’t want anything to happen to him and tells him to just put his feelings into his music.

“The song was just a first step…the beginning.” – Cedric

Eva later gives an interview to the local reporter who broke the story of her arrest.

The episode ends with footage of Eric Garner’s arrest and eventual death.
