When it comes to artists in the entertainment industry who can put together a hot track in the studio and be business savvy at all times, Jay-Z most definitely fits that description to a tee. After becoming part owner of pro basketball team the Brooklyn Nets and now getting his shot at becoming a certified baseball agent, a process that is in the works as we speak, Jay-Z has kept his business hat on extra tight with the launching of his new sports company Roc Nation Sports. Along with his attempt to tackle the sports industry, Jay is on a quest to start up a baby product line with his wife Beyonce under their daughter’s full name. Jay-Z has gotten his props over and over again from many of his peers and fans alike, with the exception of a few heated folks in the baseball industry, for trying to take things beyond the musical level. And his wife Beyonce herself is one who seems to take no days off as the superstar singer just started her highly anticipated world tour, is doing summer campaign ads with H&M and is getting ready to drop another studio album to her fans’ delight.

Jay-Z and Beyonce were named the highest paid celebrity couple of last year and now both Jay-Z and Beyonce have secured themselves a spot on the TIME‘s ’100 Most Influential People in the World’ list for 2013, Jay-Z landing on the front cover of the issue and falling in the “Titans” category. For each person on the list, a celebrity writer was chosen to write about each of them. And New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg took on the job of sharing his thoughts on Jay-Z which was most fitting as Jay hails from NY.

Mayor Bloomberg writes on Jay-Z:

“[Jay-Z's] an artist-entrepreneur who stands at the center of culture and commerce in 21st century America, and his influence stretches across races, religions and regions. He’s never forgotten his roots — “Empire State of Mind” was a love song to our city — and as a co-owner of the NBA Nets, he helped bring a major league sports team back to Brooklyn, not far from his old neighborhood. In nearly everything he’s tried, he’s found success. (He even put a ring on Beyoncé.) And in doing so, he’s proved that the American Dream is alive and well.”

On Beyonce, who falls under the “Icons” category, Director Baz Luhrmann writes:

“She and Jay Z are the royal couple of culture, and she is the queen bee. She’s gone beyond being a popular singer, even beyond being a pop-cultural icon. When Beyoncé does an album, when Beyoncé sings a song, when Beyoncé does anything, it’s an event, and it’s broadly influential. Right now, she is the heir-apparent diva of the USA — the reigning national voice.”

First Lady Michelle Obama joins Beyonce in the “Icons” category. Dr. Maya Angelou writes on Mrs. Obama:

“She considers all children her responsibility: black or white, pretty or plain, all the children. The philosophers tell us that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Mrs. Obama is as if it doesn’t touch her. She hasn’t tried to become anybody else’s idea of the First Lady. She has remained herself, with her grace, her gentleness and her sense of humor. That she would dare to wear clothes off the rack. Or go out and garden. Or have a grandmother in the White House. She knows how to be a public creature without being separate from her family.”

As for her husband, President Barack Obama, he made the list under the “Leaders” category. And Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton writes of him:

“Today, they see a leader who delivers — whether it’s ending the war in Iraq, imposing crippling sanctions on Iran or reasserting our role as a Pacific power and building a world with more partners and fewer enemies. At home, the economy is growing, unemployment is falling, and home prices are rising. Now, President Obama is working to create broader prosperity at home and become more competitive abroad by investing in our people, modernizing our infrastructure, building a new energy future and managing our long-term fiscal challenges. That’s the course for a better future.”

Other musicians that made the list were Frank Ocean and Miguel who both have had a great year in music so far, Frank Ocean and Miguel both being listed in the “Artists” category.

Critic Douglas Wolk writes of Miguel:

“The survival of the black pop tradition isn’t just a matter of preserving its history — although Miguel does that too: the soul seducer’s Grammy-winning hit single “Adorn” ingeniously evokes Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On”. What has nourished that tradition over the past 70 years, though — what has kept it not just alive but thriving — is what makes Miguel’s recent music so special: constant innovation, formal daring, unexpected sources of inspiration, and emotional directness.”

R&B singer John Legend writes of Frank Ocean:

“How fitting that he released his “declaration” on Independence Day. I think Frank’s career will be defined by his fearlessness and his artistic freedom. He has the talent, the ability and the brilliance to have an impact for a long time. He will follow his muse wherever it goes — he’s not the kind of artist to adhere to everyone else’s schedule. That’s what makes him special.”

President Barack Obama is hard at work in his second term as president of the United States. While President Obama has millions of supporters across the country, and world for that matter, there are those who still can’t find it in them to show him any kind of love, his wife First Lady Michelle Obama having to deal with the same thing. Regardless of the criticism that the President and First Lady face on the regular, those who stand behind them will let people have it if they feel that they are disrespecting any member of the First Family. And the History Channel just recently caught some major heat for allegedly doing just that. On Sunday night’s airing of the channel’s popular series ‘The Bible’,  Actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni portrayed the role of Satan in the episode. And people couldn’t get past the fact the actor that the channel chose to take on the role looked a whole lot like President Obama.

As expected, outrage surfaced quickly as people were highly upset at the obvious resemblance that the actor playing Satan in the series had to President Obama. After getting an angry earful about it, The HISTORY channel released a statement in response to those who think that it is no coincidence at all that the network used Ouazanni to take on the role on that episode of the series when he looks so much like our president.

The statement from the History Channel reads:

“HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It’s unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY’s ‘The Bible’ is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.”

The Bible Executive Producers Mark Burnett & Roma Downey also released a statement:

“This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouazanni, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics– including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”

“Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love our President, who is a fellow Christian. False statements such as these are just designed as a foolish distraction to try and discredit the beauty of the story of The Bible.”

Here’s the photo of Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni that caused the outrage:

Beyonce made headlines last year for being casted for the leading role in the  remake to A Star is Born. The singer initially expressed that she was excited to be a part of the project, so many were a little confused when the singer confirmed in a public statement that she was dropping out of the film. While Beyonce cited “schedule conflicts” for the reason she was walking away from the film that is set to be produced by Clint Eastwood, many people just aren’t buying that Beyonce could not find a way to make time to star in another movie, especially since acting is something she really wants to do more of.

While some suggest she is pulling out of the project because she is pregnant again with her second child with husband Jay-Z, it’s already been confirmed by Jay-Z himself that Beyonce is not pregnant.

But one plausible cause comes from recent gossip we heard that suggests that Beyonce pulled out of A Star is Born for political reasons. Apparently, everything was cool until Clint Eastwood decided to speak at the Republican National Convention. Some insiders say that although Beyonce has no beef with Clint Eastwood personally, she and Jay-Z feel that they have contributed too much money, time, and support to the Obama/Biden 2012 campaign for her to work with such an adamant Romney/Ryan supporter. Allegedly, the singer just feels it wouldn’t be a loyal move for her to make a movie with the same actor who actually made a speech at the RNC.

Nicki Minaj taps into her political side and tweets President Barack Obama her dislike of the current health care system.

By: Taren Vaughan

We all know Nicki Minaj will speak her mind whenever she sees fit. Whether it be addressing the haters for talking slick about her or weighing in on a new artist in the industry, Nicki will make her voice heard, like it or not. And the recent passing of TV sitcom actress Yvette Wilson was a situation that she most definitely couldn’t keep quiet about.

Using Twitter as her venting source, she went all political on us, showing her dislike for how the government did Wilson:

“What’s sad is that when Yvette was bringing home the bacon, the gov’t was probably taking millions,” “On her deathbed though, #Nowheretobefound.”

Minaj continued to express her feelings for the current health care system through a series of tweets, some of which were directed straight to President Obama himself:

“That should be a God given right! Even with Obama Care, too much involved,” Minaj tweeted. “Just give FREE health care to all. @barackobama What can we do?”

She goes on to say that poor people shouldn’t have the headache of worrying about medical bills:

“@BarackObama I wouldn’t mind the millions they took if it was going to healthcare,” “Why should a poor person struggle to pay for MEDS sir?”

This same song has been sung for years now about how screwed up the health care system is. And still it has its major flaws within it. Some people are looking for President Obama to break out his magic wand and make everything better instantly, but it just doesn’t work that way.

Minaj’s views mirror those of many other celebrities, blue-collar workers and Average Joes out here, especially those who keep their heads buried deep in political issues.

The fact of the matter is though, when you make millions, you are bound to lose a nice chunk of change to the system…simple politics there.

But what happens when celebrities stop, as Nicki Minaj put it, “bringing home the bacon” and can’t afford to pay their bills anymore?
