Using Your Spiritual Gifts to Honor God

By: Amanda Anderson

10Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:10-11

The bible states that God blesses every believer with spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are special talents that can be used to minister to others and do the work of God. In many cases, there are believers who have the spiritual gift of song, teaching, and even community leadership. Although we do not get to pick the spiritual gifts that we wish to receive, the bible is clear that no believer is without a gift (Romans 12:6).

In many cases, believers may not have the talents that they desire to have. They might find themselves trying to develop a talent that they were not blessed with, and even become envious of others who have the specific gifts that they themselves wish they could have.

Although you may not have the spiritual gifts that you desire, your spiritual gifts are in no way any less important than those of others. Even if your gifts are minor to you, to God they are essential to doing his work. Never underestimate the importance of your spiritual gifts, no matter how insignificant they might seem to you.

God intended for believers to glorify Him in everything that we do. We are not merely here for ourselves, but for God’s divine purpose. Whatever your talent, make sure that you help others and minister to those in need. And according to God, every gift is needed and an essential part of His plan.
