Computer Love: Is Your Soul Mate Only A Click Away?

Is it possible to find true love via the Internet?

By: Taren Vaughan

Nowadays, every daily activity that we do has become so high tech. From talking on the phone to listening to your favorite songs, those things that were once somewhat time-consuming have become much easier to do. It has even gotten to the point where you can pick up a date by simply logging on to your computer. But is it really all that it’s cracked up to be? Can you really find your one true love via the Internet?

Thanks to E-Harmony, The Facebook and Black People Meet.com, Internet dating has become extremely popular amongst those on the dating scene who are in search of their soul mate. The free access to these websites makes it just that much easier for you to find Mr. Right within a matter of seconds. With all the new online dating websites available now, people are becoming much more open to the idea of hooking up with people on the web.

Sounds simple enough right? You join one of these websites and you are instantly matched with the man of your dreams. But can it truly land you in a successful, long standing relationship?

A few of my close friends have found their boyfriends and even husbands through social websites. And some of them have actually had good relationships with these men. On the other hand though, some of them have had some of the worst dating experiences ever with “gentlemen” that they met on the Internet. So bad even that they became completely turned off from Internet dating and refused to go back down that road again.

Internet dating is not as horrible as some people make it out to be. And everyone’s experience with it won’t be the same. But just like any other method of finding a date or someone to get serious with, it can have its flaws. It takes away from the traditional days of courting in a sense. You can almost think of it as a blind date. Yeah, you may see a picture of this person on a website. But how do you know if that is really them? He could be using a picture of someone else to throw you off. Don’t think for a minute that there aren’t guys out there who pull this stunt because they are definitely alive and well. God knows you don’t want to get caught in a situation like that.

At the end of the day, the person that you see on your computer screen may not be the same one that you see in person. Finding a good date face to face can be a challenge at times. So I say keep an open mind about it. But by all means, don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Through the computer, looks can be very deceiving.
