Stand By Me: Can You Be A Supportive Partner?

Being supportive can go a long way in a relationship.

There are obvious things that we want our partners to do when it comes to a relationship. Some things don’t even need to be mentioned because you assume that they will just happen naturally. Providing you with support when you need it is one of those things. While a person can seem to grasp the overall concept of being a good partner, surprisingly sometimes they can fail miserably at being supportive, an area that holds more weight than many people think. How is that though? That someone can know who to do everything else right expect be that support system that most of us are looking for?

Seriously, there is really no excuse for lacking in this aspect of a partnership. Just thought I’d throw that out there as a reminder to those who claim that it’s so hard to do. Showing support can be done in so many different ways. You can most definitely take your pick at which way to do it. And it does not have to mean that you have to dish out endless amounts of cash. Just your presence alone can show your man how much his happiness means to you. And even if you can not be there physically to support your significant other, a few words of encouragement would be nice don’t you think? A simple “Good luck” or “Good job” isn’t too much to ask for right?

So what if you have no interest in what it is that partner is doing?

You mean to tell me you didn’t think this would ever happen? Come on now. Did you honestly think that you and your man were going to have absolutely everything in common? That you will love to do all the things that he takes so much joy in? No matter how compatible you and your partner are, trust and believe that there will be some things that you two don’t see eye to eye on. That’s just the reality of it. Be that as it may, that shouldn’t mean that you can’t stand behind your man if he is doing something that is of great importance to him especially if it is very beneficial to him and his overall success.

Now I know we all have those selfish moments where we could care less about someone else’s interests. I am fully aware of that. But there is no harm in showing up to a few basketball games here and there or going to those company events that his job puts on from time to time. Enduring these things won’t kill you will it? Can’t you put self aside for a moment and support what your man is doing? Taking this time out of your “oh so busy” day will be worth it and it will not go unrecognized believe me. Even if what your man is doing or plans on doing, in your eyes, may not seem like the best option for him, stand behind him on it. Unless he is doing something illegal that could land him some jail time or something that could be life threatening, I see no need for you to rain on his parade.

Some people don’t think it’s a big deal to be supportive of their significant others. And with these individuals, they really have no clue. Because despite what they may think, showing your support for what your significant other does can go a very long way. To be quite honest, it can surpass those “I Love You”’s that many people crave to hear from their partners. Just knowing that you are there for moral support is more than enough sometimes. It goes far beyond the verbal or monetary signs of affection. Being supportive is such a simple thing to do yet it has so much meaning behind it. It is a silent reflection of how much you care about seeing your man happy doing something that he truly enjoys.
