Nicki Minaj just made headlines for being confirmed as a judge for the 12th season of American Idol. Although it had been rumored for weeks that the Young Money superstar would be selected to sit next to Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson; there were whispers amongst the gossip enthusiasts that Mariah Carey was not amused to have the Head Barbie sit next to her and judge talent on the American Idol panel. Although Mariah eventually came out to the press and denied any beef with the possibility of Nicki being on the show, her friends said the singer was absolutely furious with the possibility. They claimed Mariah was upset about the selection not only because the producers initially promised her she would be the only female judge on the show like J-Lo was before her exit, but she also felt like Nicki hadn’t paid enough dues in the industry yet to accurately judge talent, seeing as her success is still relatively new compared to the other judges.
There were even reports claiming that Mariah was urging producers to consider Lenny Kravitz instead (who she’s also rumored to be having an affair with, ironically), since the singer feels like Lenny is more talented, with way more years of experience in the industry under his belt.
Regardless of Mariah’s lack of enthusiasm for Nicki joining the show, Nicki was eventually confirmed as a judge yesterday. And now some are suggesting that Nicki was only selected because out of all the proposed judges, Mariah Carey was the least excited about her joining the show. And the producers loved that.
According to the NY Post, those close to the production staff claim that Nicki Minaj and Mariah were both attractive candidates due to their rumored diva antics. Since the show is said to be losing it’s intensity, the producers thought it was time to go back to two female judges. And to get the most of the two female judges, they would need to clash like Paula Abdul did with Kara DioGuardi. And who better to clash than notorious diva Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, the hottest selling female rapper of the moment who has a nasty reputation of being hard to work with?
If the producers do manage to pull this off, American Idol can see a few more seasons. The only problem is, it seems like there is a growing number of people who aren’t too happy to see Nicki Minaj on the panel.
I can’t say it even matters to why they picked Nicki, the fact that they did makes it hard for me to watch the show anymore. Sorry.
LOL, that’s because Mariah is a BOSS. These youngins think Nicki is, but she wasn’t a first choice I’m sure. I still think she has 5 more years in the game tops. Hope she saves her money.
And cat fights they will surely get. I won’t be watching, but something tells me they made the right decision.
Just read somewhere that Mariah is making way more money than Nicki. So this is probably true. LOL!!!! Go Mariah! Yes, she is a boss!!!! Nicki should send her some flowers for locking in this job for her.
Mariah Carey is a boss, BUT she wasn’t asked to join American Idol until the 12th season. Meanwhile, like 3 years into the game Nicki gets a spot and a higher salary than Keith Urban! Cry on you lil haters! 🙂
