Janelle Monae entered the music world with a sound and style that was much different from the rest. Although mainly labeled as an R&B/soul singer, the music that the highly underrated songbird puts out has a range of different feels to it, giving her that crossover appeal that some artists try to gain after years of failed attempts. And she has had the chance to get into the studio with some very creditable talents including B.O.B. and Lupe Fiasco, who appeared on hit single “Tightrope (Wondamix)”, Janelle also linking up with Big Boi from Outkast on the original version of the song. Often caught rockin’ tuxedos and bowties with a natural high updo, Janelle’s unique fashion sense and fearless approach that she takes on with her hairstyles has continued to set herself apart from most singers in the game at the moment, Janelle not being at all afraid to move away from the norms of the music industry and do her own thing. And that is one thing that her fans adore about her, Janelle serving as inspiration for some of their fashion choices. As her fans applaud her for music and style, Janelle Monae has caught the attention of major cosmetic lines and publications as she isn’t afraid to branch out and bring something different to the table. Becoming a Cover Girl, being featured dancing in Sonos commercials and earning herself nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards, the good news just keeps rolling in for the singer as she has just landed her first cover with ELLE Canada, appearing on the February 2013 issue of the publication.

Overjoyed about her big accomplishment, Janelle tweeted the magazine cover to her fans, saying that she was “very thankful” for the opportunity that she was presented with.

Big congrats to Janelle Monae.

  1. I can’t lie. I haven’t heard not one of this chick’s songs, but she seems pretty cool. Congrats to her.
