Tyler Perry’s new film Temptation is causing plenty of controversy, and it’s not because of the story line. Tyler Perry has caused some confusion with his loyal fans for selecting Kim Kardashian for one of the supporting roles. Tyler recently admitted that he chose the reality star for the part because he felt like she would help the film become a commercial success by bringing in a different group of people to see the film. Tyler’s films are usually a big hit amongst African-Americans, but the director wanted this particular film not to go unnoticed from other ethnic groups.
In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, actor Lance Gross also comes to Kim’s defense and claims he feels more people should just give her a chance, despite her past as an adult film star. He also claims that he understands why Tyler casted her and he feels she did a great job with her role. Lance says:
“I’ve been working with Tyler since 2007 and he has a great business mind. He knows what he’s doing and he knows what he wants for his films. So I don’t really question his decisions in casting people. To Kim’s defense, she did a great job. The role that he gave her was well thought out. It was something that he believed she could execute. And I think she brought her “A-game.” I get what all the fuss was about, but at the end of the day you got to give people a chance. And I feel like she really proved herself.”
In related news, it looks like Tyler Perry’s decision to cast Kim didn’t hurt the film like some predicted. According to Deadline, the new film is Tyler’s second highest grossing non Madea film to date. Temptation has exceeded expectations, and brought in about $22.5 million in its opening weekend.
