Michelle Williams has to be excited about this year so far. She got the chance to join her Destiny’s Child band mates Beyonce and Kelly Rowland on stage and performed with them for the Super Bowl halftime show. As Michelle was excited about getting to share the awesome moment with Beyonce’, not everyone had good things to say about her performance and continued to talk about it for days after it. Michelle wasn’t bothered at all by the chatter about her Super Bowl halftime performance though as she is set to have her own reality TV show My Sister’s Keeper which highlights different aspects of her career and family life with her sisters, Wendy Williams letting it be known that she won’t be tuning in to the show. Despite how people feel about her, Michelle Williams continues to let the negative comments from others roll right off her back as she is focusing on her acting career and music.

In an interview that she did with Praise 103.1’s The Lonnie Hunter Show, Michelle Williams talked about the play FELA that is starring in and the new gospel album that she is currently working on. And she talks about the frustration that she has with people who don’t believe that she is truly a saved Christian because of her association with Destiny’s Child:

“I don’t make it an issue. Everybody else does…I would say, it’s caused a little, you know…You’re human so you’re feelings are gonna get hurt because you want people to know ‘What do I gotta do to prove to people I’m saved?’ Do I need to speak in tongues? Do I need to froth at the mouth? Saints of God, what do y’all need me to do? And I just continue to pray and you know, when people say ‘You’ll know a tree by the fruit it bears’ and so that’s all I can do. I know that I’m in the right place. When people come up to me and say the song ‘Survivor’, to this day, 2013, I get tweets, Facebook messages, saying a song like ‘Survivor’ has kept me from jumping off a ledge…”

And though she got her fame from singing R&B music with Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams says gospel music has always been her first love:

“Gospel has always been my first love…Even being in Destiny’s Child, people like ‘She’s churchy’ or ‘She got a church bounce’. Yep, it’s not going anywhere…I was watching myself on the Super Bowl like, that church sway is not going anywhere. But I thank God for my teaching and the grounding that I have. And that He’s allowed me, he’s trusted me to go into some arenas knowing that I’m gonna do right.”

  1. The bible says “other Sheep I have which are not of this fold…” meaning you and your church isn’t the only saved folks in the world. SMH. They are upset because she’s a secular artist making money and not just a gospel artist, but she has an opportunity to lead so many other people to Christ by being an example. She isn’t cussing or acting a fool. She’s showing that you don’t have to stop living just to be Christian.
