ASAP Rocky is highly regarded when it comes to his sense of style, but even though he’s currently one of the most popular newer rappers on the scene, what he says in his interviews seems to cause more buzz than his fashion choices and music these days. ASAP clearly has no qualms with speaking his mind and giving his opinion when he feels good and ready to but sometimes what he says rubs people the wrong way. Recently, he made comments that suggested only women with fair skin could rock red lipstick. This didn’t sit too well with some women of color. He said:

“I like red lips, it’s fine. I’m going to be real, though: it’s bad for making out, because it gets on the guys. But for real, for me, I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the pair of complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—f*cking for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick? Naw, that looks stupid on all girls! Purple lipstick, guys! Like, what the f*ck…”

Not only did Azealia Banks rip him a new one on Twitter for making the statements, but rapper Trina, another brown girl beauty, also made it clear to TMZ that she felt he was out of line. However, ASAP says he doesn’t feel what he said was offensive and he just thinks black women are just too sensitive. He tells KYSDC:

“Black girls just, ah man, went crazy. They just took it how they took it. This is actually my second time talking about it cause I really don’t really look at it as an issue. If people get upset at that I think it’s petty at the same time. It’s like they d*mn near wanna Rick Ross boycott me right now, over some lipstick controversy. Black girls, you know how sensitive they are, but they our sisters man. It is what is man. I come from a black home, so I know how sensitive black women can be. Especially when you talking about they looks or something like that. You can’t say nothing about they glasses, they nails, none of that because then you’re a womanizer or you’re a racist. I don’t know how I’m going to be racist. I have to wake up and look at my black a*s in the mirror everyday. It’s like, what are you talking about? But it is what it is, man. I’m proud to be black.”

  1. It’s pretty insensitive of him to say this considering that black women are usually the target of the media. He’s basically telling the media that our voice doesn’t matter because well we’re “too sensitive.” Smdh.

  2. Give an ignorant black rapper access to white women and fashion designers and this is how he starts talking about black women. LOL.

  3. I’m so tried of these rappers. I’m going to boycott the whole genre in a second. It’s getting ridiculous.

  4. smh. people got offended by that ? I swear being in the public eye it’s like you can’t say anything without being ridiculed for it.. get over it. he has a preference. it’s not like he made it a LAW for fair skin girls to wear red lipstick. GET .OVER .IT
