Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj’s tenure on “American Idol” has been a very dramatic one and that’s all because the two divas just couldn’t manage to get along on or off camera. Despite collaborating together earlier in Nicki’s career, they apparently were disgusted by one another and Twitter beefs and on camera shade wars became persistent, therefore taking away attention from the singing competition which is the point of the show. However, it was rumored many months ago that the beef was the purpose of hiring both Nicki and Mariah, and producers reportedly had hoped their possible on screen clashing would spike ratings. Unfortunately for FOX, the direct opposite occurred, and neither artist’s large fan-bases could prevent the show from having its lowest season ratings ever. Since things went downhill so bad, it was rumored that all of the judges would get the axe, and it now appears that the rumor has pretty much been confirmed although Keith Urban’s fate hasn’t been announced yet. Both Nicki and Mariah have confirmed they are leaving “Ido”l to focus their music careers. Access Hollywood reports:
Nicki Minaj is following Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson out the door of “American Idol.”
The singer and rapper Tweeted her decision to leave the show on Thursday afternoon, not long after news broke that Mariah too was exiting the Fox show’s judges’ panel.
“Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music,” she Tweeted.
“Mmmuuuaahhh,” she added.
…Earlier on Thursday, Mariah’s PR company, PMK-BNC, announced the superstar singer was leaving the show to focus on her music career.
“W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol,” the company Tweeted.
We can’t say we’re surprised by the news, but whispers in the industry suggest Nicki and Mariah were simply quitting before they got fired. PR moves and damage control? Possibly.
In related news, it’s still being reported Jennifer Hudson is just minor steps away from signing up to judge the upcoming season.
It’s for the best.
Who didn’t see this one coming? I am looking forward to both of them getting back into music though…
Well it was a disaster anyway. The producers wanted drama and they got too much of it.
Yeah, I think they got fired too. They ruined the show with their cattiness. But at least they still have music to focus on. Neither one of them needed the check anyway.
On to bigger and better for Nicki! Movies, and new music. 🙂

Honestly, I thinking brining on J-Hud and other past contestants who have done well is the smartest thing to do.
Eh, everyone knew this was going to happen. Better to say you’re quitting to focus on music than to be fired right? LOL.
This needed to happen. Next time the producers will find a smarter way to make the show interesting again.
Good. It was not a good look for either one of them.
Meh, the show couldn’t keep them on after the disastrous season that just ended. The beef got more attention than any of the contestants and winner did. Now that’s sad.
Smart move FOX.
I wouldn’t want to to do American idol because if anything goes wrong they blame the judges.
