Lil Wayne is known for being controversial in his lyrics, but he angered many in the black community when he decided to compare having wild bedroom moments with the violent beating and murder of Emmett Till. Interestingly enough, he went silent and pretty much seemed to refuse to apologize when the family of the civil rights icon demanded he publicly apologize and acknowledge that he was out of line. But once the Till family decided that they were not going to be silenced or drop their conquest, they then made it clear to the public that they were going after his endorsements. Of course the thought of losing money and being “Rick Rossed” was enough for Lil Wayne to finally acknowledge the family and speak on his disrespectful lyrics. However, the “apology” that he sent to the media doesn’t sound much like an apology at all considering he never said he was sorry (apologized). The Till family seems to have the same sentiments and they told TMZ they were not impressed. TMZ reports:

Nowhere in the letter did Wayne say he was sorry for what he did.

Now, Airickca Gordon-Taylor — Executive Director, Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation and Till Family Representative — tells TMZ the family does not view the letter as a formal apology.

“While it’s commendable that he has vowed to respect the legacy of Emmett Till and his memory to ‘not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in his music,’ this statement falls short of an apology, as none is mentioned.”

  1. I don’t blame them. That wasn’t a real apology. And it was written by his publicist. Very disrespectful.

    1. Agreed. Like why on earth would you pen a letter that doesn’t once say “I’m sorry” about such a sensitive subject? That’s common sense. It just proves he still doesn’t think he did anything wrong.

  2. I saw on some white sites that some white people are even offended by this. Lil Wayne really messed up this time. I say it’s karma.

  3. It wasn’t a real apology. He just did whatever he had to do to save his endorsements. The fact that he said it in the first place (Emmett Till diss) just shows his true and very nasty character. Black people need to stop supporting his a-s.

  4. They need to go after his endorsements anyway. It’s time for all of these stupid rappers to start losing money for all the years that made up buck off of disrespecting black women.

  5. Smdh. Keep fighting the good fight Till family. Don’t stop until he loses his Mountain Dew endorsement. He needs to be humbled.
