Eve Says She Doesn’t Need to Beef with Other Female Rappers to Sell Records

Rapper Eve is back on the scene and dropped her new album “Lip Lock” last week. Although Eve has already established herself as one of the stronger female rappers to ever pick up a mic, the industry has been dominated by one female rapper for the last few years (Nicki Minaj), so many questioned if Eve would be able to make a decent comeback to the music industry. Eve has proven with the release of her latest singles that she still has what it takes lyrically to be taken seriously in the male dominated genre, but in today’s music, it’s clear that controversy is what sells. Nowadays, when we hear about female rappers, they are beefing with one another. And according to Eve, that’s not what she has to do to advance her career. In fact, she refuses to get involved. She tells Complex:

“I’d rather avoid beef than use it in my career. The biggest misconception about female rappers today is that we’re trying to take another person’s light and we’re all competing against each other. I hate drama. If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it woman to woman. Media pitting female artists against each other is the dumbest thing in the world. I don’t indulge in that sh*t.”

In related news, Eve’s first week sales for “Lip Lock” weren’t her best, considering she only sold about 9,129 according to SoundScan in its first run. The good news is she is on her very own independent label, so in the grand scheme of things, she’ll get to hold on to most of the money the album makes. So it’s definitely not a big loss.

  1. I love Eve, but music has changed. You have to grab people’s attention to sell records. No one really knew she had a new album out. That’s wasn’t smart.

  2. I didn’t even know she had a new album out. Marketing is essential. Has she dropped a single at all?

  3. Damn…well Nicki had to give Lil Wayne a lap dance on national TV to get some attention or look stupid on American Idol so maybe it’s not so bad that Eve refuses to sell out to sell. Love her.

    1. Really? Come on. Now you and I both know Nicki was on top before the BBMA performance. I know you’re salty about Eve, but let’s not get out of hand. LOL.

  4. The crazy thing is if Eve decided to slut it out and be trashy like Nicki, she’d sell millions of records. This young generation is pathetic.

  5. And for the record, I like Eve. She’s dope and has skills. But she didn’t handle business. When you have an album out, you have to market yourself. A few interviews here and there won’t cut it. She should have been hopping on everyone’s records, doing features and throwing her music in people’s faces. That’s what it takes now for everyone.

  6. Damn. 10,000? That’s all. That’s pretty tough. I saw people posing on IG that they bought her album. I thought she’d do better than this.

  7. Shame. Oh well. It’s not like she was hurting for money. She came back because she loves it. I hope she doesn’t let it get her down too much. At least she didn’t have to sell out to be successful. Nicki will go down in history as a clown. All money ain’t good money.

    1. All money is money though. I wouldn’t mind selling out for money. Like Charlamagne says, I can’t wait to sell out. I just need for somebody to buy in…

  8. I agree that Eve is SOOOOO above the beef and drama…I actually bought the album & I LOVE it…”Lip Lock” is a good album & she can still rap but this is sad because I think she’s BETTER than ANY beef that she could get into…She LOVES her life & doesn’t really need rap…She just made an album because she LOVES it…I LOVE her & had to support her…I’m listening “All Night” as I type this LOL
