Tyler Perry continues to keep the movies coming as the filmmaker-producer rarely takes any breaks from the scene. And while he is one of the most successful Black producers out, Tyler Perry often receives heavy criticism over his films and has angered some over his story lines, yet there are those who applaud Tyler for his efforts and insist that he deserves a lot of credit for keeping the acting gigs coming for Black actors and actresses. And Tyler’s efforts to help others is stemming beyond the realm of the acting business as he surprised students at Finland Middle School in Columbus, Ohio with a recent donation of $100,000 to the Success Beyond the Classroom Foundation. The middle school, apart of the Southwestern City School District, has struggled financially, so much to the point where the school was forced to eliminate sports and other extracurricular activities back in 2009.

The schools in the Southwestern district were spotlighted in an HBO documentary that featured teacher Mary Mulvany, the woman who started the Success Beyond the Classroom foundation, a foundation that raised scholarship funds to cover the participation fees for families who couldn’t afford to pay for their children to play sports and be involved in other extra-curricular activities.

The documentary just so happened to catch Tyler’s attention and he reached out to Mulvany as he wanted to make a contribution to the foundation. And he spoke on what he felt was the best part of the day for him:

“That is so much hope and joy and love in that room. And what is so exciting about them, all is that they all have a story. And I think children, sometimes, are just pushed aside as kids. But the stories in that room could move a mountain.”

And Mary Mulvany says that Tyler’s donation was truly overwhelming:

“Overwhelmed, I’m totally overwhelmed. It’s just such a kind gesture and he’s such an unselfish person. How nice that he came here.”

Very dope TP.

  1. Say what you want about TP, but you can’t say he’s selfish. He is always giving back to others. I don’t like all his movies, but I respect and like him as a person.
