Miley Cyrus isn’t taking the Amanda Bynes route to stay relevant, instead the singer and former Disney actress has opted to just reinvent her image. Miley is no longer interested in being the squeaky clean pop princess who has millions of young girls looking up to her. Instead, Miley has gone Hip Hop, twerks in YouTube videos and even hangs out with Hip Hop’s most popular artists of the moment. And she’s gone all the way with her new image, reminding us a lot of Rihanna after recently bombarding her Instagram followers with sexy photos of herself. Regardless of Miley’s more “urban” look, the singer tells Billboard she’s not trying to abandon singing for Hip Hop. But in the process, Miley also rubbed a lot of people the wrong way after she claimed she’s not trying to be the “white Nicki Minaj” but she loves “hood music.” She says:

“A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I love ‘hood’ music, but my talent is as a singer.

“I want my record to be the biggest record in the world, and I’ve given everything to get here, even down to friends and family and relationships-I’ve just put this music first. That’s been kind of a trip: It’s not like I’m losing who I am-I actually found out more about who I am by making this music. I’m going on a journey, and that’s more than a lot of 20-year-olds can say. And I’m still going to change so much. Because I’m not the same person I was six months ago-I’m not even the same person I was two weeks ago.”

Although Miley doesn’t want to be a “white Nicki Minaj,” she says she’d loved to be a lot more like Miguel and Frank Ocean when discussing her upcoming album:

“It’s not a hip-hop album, though-it’s a pop album. I’m not coming in trying to rap. It’s more like, ‘I don’t see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Ocean are doing.”

Miley didn’t mean to offend anyone with her comments, but her words did strike a nerve with plenty of Hip Hop heads. But what do you think about Miley’s comments and new image? Loving it? Or are you a tad bit offended? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. She want to be ratchet so bad lol. Truth be told my favorite song of Miley’s was party in the usa. She is young and still trying to find herself so good luck with that. Happy Fathers Day!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Eh I don’t see the point of the backlash. She is young and going through the trial phase we all go through. Just in front of the whole world. I like her & hope it works out.

  3. Honestly, from her being on Hannah Montana, you could see she wasn’t the average “pretty white girl”. She is diverse with her music, and as she stated, she is 20 years old. None of us are the same as we were 15 years old, let alone 20 and if you are older than that, you know things change. She is choosing to go a route where she can attract all types of crowds, which she is. So the idea of her trying too hard, I don’t get it. She twerks..Okay …that’s worldwide crave right now. Why not ? let her live

  4. I’m not offended and people need to stop being so judgmental. What’s racist is people not liking her for loving our culture. Hood is a word, it does not define black people in general. Why is this world becoming so sensitive. Freedom of speech is due to any and everyone.

    1. So hanging out with Snoop, twerking and taking pics with her a-s in the air means she loves our culture? Oh please.
