With the verdict for the George Zimmerman trial being so disappointing to most in the African-American community, there’s been a push for people of color to get involved in their community and seek justice for those who have suffered a similar fate to Trayvon Martin. And there’s been quite a remarkable movement taking place across the country since the verdict, with even some of music’s biggest stars getting involved in the boycott of Florida and attending rallies to in honor of the unarmed black teen.

Lil Scrappy has been very vocal of what the situation means to him and even recorded a song about the situation, highlighting his anger with the teen’s killing. Now it appears Lil Scrappy is taking things a step further as the “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” star just called out black men who participate in street violence and called for these men to stop black on black violence. In the VLAD TV video, he says after completing a march for Trayvon Martin in his hometown of Atlanta:

“I just did a march for justice and peace and all that. I had a lot of people out there with me. I had (former) Mayor Bill Campbell, my lawyer Mawuli Davis from the Davis Bozeman Law Firm and I had a lot of people out there with me like (Pastor) Troy. Everybody…it was 5000 people in Atlanta marching from Clarke, from the AUC all the way to the CNN Center and we stood on the CNN sign which is illegal because they couldn’t do nothing about it cause we was marching for a cause.

“Soon as I went to the club that night I seen some homies get killed. They killed each other. It wasn’t nobody white out there, wasn’t nobody Mexican, wasn’t nobody Puerto Rican. It was two black people that was dead because some other black people killed each other. If you don’t stand up for nothing, you stand up for something because you will fall for anything. You gon’ help them take us out, keep on bulls*tting I guarantee you that.

“Everybody needs to go for the positive route. Everybody ain’t gon’ be cool with it but f*ck ’em. If not, they’ll catch on later. If not it will be another corpse in the grave somewhere. We got kids…we got to fight for them.”

Lil Scrappy then went on to say he feels our ancestors died for no reason considering the high rates of black on black violence:

“Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, all these brothers that came through before our time, they been fighting…our granddaddies, our grandmas, our great greats, our ancestors…they ain’t die for no reason. But that’s what it feels like right now. It feel like they died for no reason and you just trying to live for yourself and you got kids you need to be taking care of.

“All y’all men, take care of your kids homie. You don’t take care of your kids, you’re going to have the baddest karma in the world I swear to God because they ain’t asked to be here, you put them here.”

While a lot of people applauded Lil Scrappy’s message, others slammed him and accused him of being a hypocrite considering he’s a star on one of the most ratchet television shows on the air featuring African-Americans.

But what do you think? Do you agree with Lil Scrappy or do you find his message hypocritical? Check out the video message below:

  1. But he embarrasses black people all the time. What respectable man makes up words like fiz-ny-ee and expects to be taken seriously in a conversation? LOL!

  2. Great message but it’s tarnished by his actions. But then again, maybe street dudes need to hear this from someone they identify with. #shrugs

  3. But will he even care about this or Trayvon Martin in let’s say 2 years? I doubt it. Sadly, the Trayvon thing is a fad to most people. I see a whole bunch of people who had blacked out profile photos talking about they can’t wait to go on the trip they booked to Miami. #IJS

    1. Right. I just hope he means what he’s saying. If he turns around and gets into another fight or gets arrested again, he doesn’t need to say anything else about this.

  4. LOL. I know he meant well, but I laughed like hell when he started talking about how we’re letting down our ancestors. Season one and two of LHH definitely has our ancestors rolling over in their graves.

    1. Thank you. The very ancestors he’s giving props to weren’t perfect either, but their message was what people needed to hear. I applaud Scrappy for using his platform in an attempt to reach out to those directly involved in killing one another. Let’s hope someone hears him.
