Drake continues to be one of the most successful artists of today’s Hip Hop culture, and his latest album “Nothing Was the Same” was projected to do some big numbers in its first week. According to projections, Drake was expected to sell around 670,000 units. The projections had to be something the artist could appreciate considering he did claim that the album was one he took a lot of pride in and he feels it’s his most honest album to date. But now the official numbers are in and it’s been confirmed that Drake’s dreams of surpassing Kanye may come true a lot sooner than he expected. As we predicted, Drake has officially outsold Kanye’s latest album “Yeezus” with the first week sales of “Nothing Was the Same” alone.
According to Billboard, the album sold a whopping 658,000 copies in its first week and it has officially topped the Billboard 200 chart, making it the number one album in the country. This of course trumps Kanye’s total sales for “Yeezus” (517,000) and Drake has also managed to beat Jay Z’s previous first week numbers for “Magna Carta Holy Grail” (528,000).
Interestingly enough, these numbers mean that Drake has the second-largest sales week of this year. Only Justin Timberlake has managed to top the rapper, as the singer sold 968,000 copies of “The 20/20 Experience” in the first week.
This also mean Drake’s career is on an uptick, considering these are the largest first week numbers the rapper has ever achieved with any of his studio albums.

There’s no rule that says you have to be street to rap. I think that’s the problem though. People actually want rappers to be thugs. If everyone had the same background and the same story, Hip Hop would be boring. I am appreciating the little diversity we’re getting now with these younger emcees (Kendrick, J. Cole, Wale, Drake).
