R&B singer Ashanti may have taken a new approach to her career by opening up more about her personal life and past romance with Nelly in recent interviews, but it appears her new take to the spotlight may not have done much to help her album sales.

According to sales projections from Hits Daily Double, the singer’s new album “Braveheart” had a terrible first week in sales. Here’s how the Billboard 200 is expected to look next week:

Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 145-160k
Pharrell Williams (Columbia) 85-95k
Lea Michele (Columbia) 50-55k
Eli Young Band (Republic Nashville) 24-27k
American Authors (Mercury/IDJ) 21-24k
David Nail (MCA Nashville) 19-22k
Ashanti (eOne) 18-21k
Drive By Truckers (ATO) 12-15k

The good news for Ashanti is she is now an independent artist, so most of the money she makes from album sales she pockets.

  1. I actually like her song I got it. I was feeling bad because I had been calling ashanti a flop.I thought she was going to make me eat my words guess not after reading this lol.

  2. I actually like the album…the snippets didn’t help sell the album but I did go ahead and download it from Itunes just to support her and i like all but 2 of the tracks up there. I will say the album was leaked a couple of days before on the internet for free download so im sure that definitely didnt help…

  3. R&B music just doesn’t sell anymore especially if you don’t cross over. The last album I bought was SWV’s “I Missed Us” in 2012 and that album was amazing but flopped terribly.

  4. How about her album didn’t sell cuz the woman is tone death! Its not the genre its her vocals. Y’all got so many excuses for her album flopping.

    1. Vocals? Then why is Rihanna’s non singing self so successful? Cuz she’s on a major label that supports her and pushes her music onto the radio. Ashanti is talented and can sing. Also writes every single song she sings.
