Back in Amil’s heyday, there were rumors that the Roc-A-Fella Records female rapper had some kind of behind the scenes romance with Jay Z.

In fact, some whispers even suggested her alleged “relationship” with Jay Z is why she ever got a deal in the first place, but with a new mixtape on deck, Amil has decided it’s time to address the rumors once and for all.

She tells Billboard:

“Jay had respect for my talent – writing and my voice – nothing more. Jay gave me the opportunity of a lifetime, and what I did with it was my own decision. That was my brother. There was never a relationship between me and Jay or anyone over there. He was like a brother; He was very protective over [me]. I’m never going to lose any love for Jay. … There was never a conversation. He (Jay Z) knew that that’s not where I wanted to be. I told him that I couldn’t do it for another year. I think he understood, overall.”

  1. They say the same thing about Rihanna. But I don’t believe Jay Z is that dumb to sleep with all his female artists. If he did, he wouldn’t be as successful as he is today.

      1. That’s funny because no one ever seems to say that men sleep around to get ahead in the business. That’s an accusation only women seem to deal with. She said it didn’t happen, but people like you will keep believing otherwise so I guess this was pointless.

  2. Contrary to belief, Jay doesn’t sleep with the women he signs. He knows better than that because that’s the fastest way to ruin business. Jay is about that dollar first.

  3. I believe her. And it’s annoying that every time a new female rapper comes out, people are so quick to assume she had to sleep around to get a deal. That’s so sexist.

  4. It’s 2014, I don’t see why she would have to lie about old gossip. I do not believe they ever slept together. But because she’s a woman, people will think it. #shrugs

  5. I miss her and some of the other female rappers from back in the day. Nicki is cool, I just wish she wasn’t the only one getting shine.
