Beyonce and Jay Z have always been able to protect themselves from gossip magazines and rumors, but as of late they have been a favorite target thanks to ElevatorGate. However, some were starting to suspect that the couple was behind the divorce rumors themselves, and utilized the rumors to bump up ticket sales.

Interestingly enough, Forbes did a little research to see if the divorce rumors had any impact on ticket sales and the publication made a rather interesting finding.

Forbes writes:

So how has the attention affected secondary market ticket prices for them on the road? According to at least one source, not very much at all. Brett Goldberg, co-founder of TickPick, an upstart challenger to StubHub, says that for most events, ticket prices tend to peak shortly after the on-sale date. They then trend downward until roughly a month before the event, at which point they rise again as the day of reckoning approaches.

“Ticket prices for Jay-Z and Beyonce’s On the Run Tour followed this trajectory, with no conceivable correlation between divorce rumors and ticket prices,” says Goldberg. “With one exception.”

The only event that seemed to move the needle was when Jay Z and Beyoncé skipped the wedding of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in June. According to Goldberg, “there was a notable bump of 25-50% in ticket prices during the time the couple was very famously vacationing in the Hamptons, and some thought, snubbing Kim and Kanye.”

Forbes goes on to write that it doesn’t really appear the Carters are behind the rumors, especially since the rumors haven’t increased ticket sales in the least bit. Regardless, the tour was a huge success, and it grossed around $100 million in about 20 days.

Not bad.

  1. The only event that seemed to move the needle was when Jay Z and Beyoncé skipped the wedding of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in June. According to Goldberg, “there was a notable bump of 25-50% in ticket prices during the time the couple was very famously vacationing in the Hamptons, and some thought, snubbing Kim and Kanye.” — — LMAOOOOO! Let me find out the Kardashians little dirty media tricks backfired!!!!!

  2. Man, I could’ve told folks that the Carters were gonna be blamed for pulling a Kim K move if the tour did well, or for allowing their personal life to overshadow the tour if it didn’t.

Problem is that the Carters could give two f-cks about what the tabloids think. They never have and never will! And that’s what will always separate them from the Kim K’s of this world.

  3. The K’s tried to hurt them but actually helped them a little. That’s hilarious. It just goes to show you people are really not here for Kimye. They want to be a power couple so bad, but you have to be respected and liked to get that label.

  4. I think them skipping that tacky wedding reminded people who the real power couple was so they went ahead and copped those OTR tickets. Nobody likes posers.

  5. I knew it was very strange that the media was so concerned about Jayonce going to that wedding. It’s like the Kardashians were putting out those stories about Bey being the maid of honor and Ja being the first man. And they knew the whole time they weren’t even coming. They wanted the public to shame them for not going and that didn’t happen. Instead ticket sales went up because people can’t stand Kimye together or individually anymore.

  6. People really thought Bey and Jy would put out their own divorce rumors? LOL. Damn some people are dumb.

  7. Now why would Beyonce need to pull a Kardashian and put out rumors to win at life when she can sell an album without promotion? Child please.

  8. Now people really need to make up their minds, so is Beyonce trying to be perfect or does she need to create bad press for herself to sell concert tickets? I need the haters to stick to one theory and stay there.

  9. The Kardashians went about it all wrong. You can’t have just any site or magazine in your pocket. It has to be the right ones. Billboard and Forbes are Team Carters. They made that clear throughout all the divorce talk. That is why they will win in the end and the K’s will lose. They got the tabloids no one respects in their pockets. They can’t even play the game right and get the real publications on their team besides Vogue.
