Ray Rice’s decision to assault his now wife in an elevator has resulted in him being released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely from the NFL, and his future as an athlete is very much in jeopardy.

Chris Brown knows firsthand how it feels to be in Ray Rice’s shoes, and he had some words of advice for the athlete.

He tells MTV News:

“For me, dealing with my anger issues and understanding myself and the life I’ve been through, where I’m headed and where I want to be has helped me focus on what’s really important and not F up. For anybody who’s going through that situation or anybody who’s dealing with it — it’s all about the choices. Every situation is different but it’s all about the choices you make and how you control your anger.

“To Ray, or anybody else — because I’m not better than the next man — I can just say I’ve been down that road. I deal with situations and I’ve made my mistakes too, but it’s all about how you push forward and how you control yourself.”

  1. I’m kind of annoyed that the media keeps asking these black celebs with troubled pasts what they think about the Ray Rice situation like they are hoping they say something stupid. They did it to Mike Vick and now Chris. They ain’t slick.

  2. So the poster boy for beating a woman, not dealing with his issues, and finding trouble like a damn homing pigeon wants to give advice that he himself refuses to take. Oh, okay!!!

  3. I like Chris Brown. When he was younger he made a mistake by getting violent with Rihanna. If you read a Vibe Magazine article about 2 years before this happened; Neyo basically said Rihanna and Chris used to get violent with each other pulling each others hair out one moment and back in love the next. With that bring said domestic violence is wrong no matter if the woman or man is the aggressor. Chris grew up in a home seeing domestic violence acted out between his step father and mother if I’m not mistaken. For him it was the norm and in his relationship he also exhibited that behavior. The fact that the incident was so public that’s what alot of people think of when they see him or hear his name. I think that Chris is very talented and we shouldn’t let one mistake that he made when he was just getting into adult hood good continue to over shadow that. I believe that Chris can change if he really wants to and let’s go of all the negativity and enablers whether it be people, places, or things. I like what Chris said about choices and controlling yourself; bc there has been a many day lately when I’ve wanted to punch someone’s lights out, but I have self-control and know I’m too pretty for jail. When you grow up seeing certain things and have learned certain behaviors and they have been left unchecked ; you might believe that’s te norm. I grew up around domestic violence as a child I knew it was wrong and as an adult I believe the same thing; but my sister who also seen the same thing growing up as well and has had it played out in every relationship she has just about been in pretty much accepts it and even made the comment ” If a man beats her ass; let him if she wants to be with him” . Mind you she has children; two girls and boy and when she is involved in domestic violence with whoever she’s with she expects her kids and whoever to help her. This pattern has gone on with her since I was a preteen and teen and being away from her for my early adult; I’m seeing the pattern hasn’t been broken and when she says things like that I don’t think she wants it to be broken. To me it just shows how low her self-esteem and self-esteem really is. With Chris Brown being a celebrity and his issues with domestic violence playing out in the media verses him not being a celebrity he was forced to take classes and do other things that might help him versus someone in our community and a blind eye is turned and the cycle continues. With the Ray Rice incident I think they should have honored the suspension, but also contingent on him returning he should have been made to go to mandotory counseling for at least a year because I’m pretty sure this hasn’t been the firs time domestic violence has been played out in his life; whether through his parents and family members or his on relationship. By firing him it messes with his livelihood and it could trigger more incidents of dv; this time he will just be more careful. Janay probably won’t speak up about it bc she saw what happened this time and may blame herself. I wish everyone involved in dv ithe best bc it’s no way to live. Happy Healing.

  4. I also forgot to say; Chris may have anger issues, but I think a lot of times people try to provoke him as well bc they know about his past and they are thinking about a payday. Sometimes people forget that stars are human just like us. They make mistakes too except theirs is played out in the media and on a major platform. I think that people try to provoke Chris and Kanye just for the hell of it and with what happened in the past with Chris and Rihanna; people are more prone to believe that he is the aggressor even if it wasn’t the case or he had a good reason to act out. Some people be like; ” Kanye’s in town; let’s start some sh-t”. “Chris Brown is in town; let’s hop on his tour bus bc I smell a payday.” ” Justin Beiber is here; let’s see if we can get a reaction”. I’m not saying you have to act a fool all of the time; but some people will try to provoke you just to get a rise out if you.
