The natural hair movement gave passage to multiple successful black owned hair product companies, and Miss Jessie’s was one of the first lines to find massive success and end up in major retailers.
Sadly, it’s now been confirmed that one of the company’s co-founders passed away as a result of suicide.
The Washington Post writes:
Titi Branch, one of the co-founders of the wildly successful natural hair care line, Miss Jessie’s, died Dec. 4, according to an obituary by NV Magazine. The magazine said it was an apparent suicide but there was no independent confirmation of that. A family friend confirmed to the Washington Post that Branch, a graduate of the University of Maryland, had indeed died. She was 45. With her sister Miko, Branch ran a popular New York salon.

RIP.. I don’t know what would drive her to take her own life but I’m suspecting Depression possibly. So Sad. Prayers to her family and friends.
Yeah I immediately thought depression too.
This is so sad. Miss Jessie’s was the first line I ever spent money on when I was a new natural. I couldn’t keep using the products, but I was very proud of what these ladies were able to accomplish. I’m praying for the family.

I feel so bad for her sister. They started the line together and were very close. You just never know what people are going through.

Poor Miko. I can’t imagine how she’s feeling. The whole family has to be hurting.
This is heart breaking.
I really wonder what happened. She was only 45. Was she ill? Battling depression? What made her do this? I hope her family is ok.

This is terrible news I wasn’t a big fan of their products except for the leave in conditioner that’s the bomb this is so sad.
