Ciara released the first single from her upcoming studio album weeks ago, and although her ex Future is feeling some kind of way because he feels the lyrics are about him, now it appears music producer Jermaine Dupri is also salty because he feels “I Bet” is just a rip-off of Usher’s smash hit “U Got It Bad.”

JD tells Billboard:

“Ciara’s new single is a complete rip-off of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad.’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. … It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.”

Dupri tells Billboard that he, Usher and producer Bryan-Michael Cox heard the similarities of the two sings immediately. He also says he thinks Ciara’s track also sounds a bit like Tamia’s “Still.” He produced both “Still” and “U Got It Bad.”

  1. There’s no more originality. I think the Blurred Lines case will cause artists and producers to stop stealing though. And that will be good for creativity.

  2. While I do hear the similarities, I’m not sure he would win if he took it to court. But this goes to show you that this is becoming a serious problem for everyone right now. People don’t want to do the work anymore when they produce now. And that’s sad and one of the reasons music is sucking so much right now.

  3. Does it matter tho? This song is a flop. Blurred Lines was a hit and worth suing over because it made so much money. Ciara’s song ain’t gonna make money like that anyway. Let her cook.

    1. Thank you. In the grand scheme of things, nothing Ciara does really matters. Her career has been over for a long time. This single probably won’t even make enough money to make suing worth it.

  4. These producers are getting lazy and real trifling. When I first heard Ciara’s song, I did say to myself it sounded like something I’ve heard before. Now I know why. Crazy.

  5. I guess I’m a weirdo because the first time I heard I Bet I thought about U Got It Bad. Write that check Ci Ci.

  6. I hope they weren’t going for Usher’s sound because they completely failed. That song isn’t good at all. U Got It Bad is a classic.

  7. And it begins. Pharrell and Robin Thicke have started something. There will be more lawsuits. Time for artists to go back to being innovative.

  8. JD sit down somewhere he reaching it’s so many songs that sound similar nowadays. This really shows me how far JD has fallen I can understand if the song was a massive hit like Blurred Lines but I Bet ain’t even a hit this ain’t no number one song so he b-tching about a mediocre song he is so pathetic smh.

  9. Ciara is just a bad luck charm. lmao This chick can’t get a break. But i wouldn’t worry because she don’t sell any way. She is good for a hit song and that is it.

  10. Ciara’s song does not sound like “you got it bad” and since they want to mention that Ciara’s song sound like Tamia’s “Still” is something they want to rethink because the way Tamia sings “Stil” sounds like Princes “Purple Rain”. Once again, any work and majority of Musician work has come from someone else’s work and is used as an inspiration or influence of creation or re-create. This has been the practice of music for many years. A lot of music being played today, people are checking for it. So no Jermaine and Brian…your broke or near broke. Just go make more music that people want to hear and cut it out already. While they calling out people, they need to be checking their “Prince, Purple Rain” inspired work that they gave to Tamia “still”.
