Taraji P. Henson Explains Why Cookie Lyon Isn’t a Caricature

Taraji P. Henson just won her very first ever Golden Globe award for her role as Cookie Lyon on FOX’s hit show “Empire,” but the actress wants to make it clear that playing the role has its challenges.

In particular, Taraji claims she has to walk a fine line to make sure the character is taken seriously.

  1. Cookie is a caricature. I think Taraji knows this deep down inside and she spilled that tea during her drunk acceptance speech. But I still love her though.

  2. Anything female character written and endorsed by Lee Daniels is a caricature. He saved his best writing for Jamal. Go figure.

  3. Yeah , Cookie is a caricature , certainly .TP’s speech was CLASSIC lolz , I love how upfront and real she is . However , everything her character entails is a stereotype of the black woman .

  4. Now she knows she’s full of sh-t. Cookie is the biggest caricature on the whole show. But people don’t mind that sh-t because she’s funny and entertaining.
