Funkmaster Flex Compares Drake to MC Hammer

According to reports, Funkmaster Flex gave his two cents on Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and he basically called Drake this generation’s version of MC Hammer.

VLAD TV writes:

Funkmaster Flex recently compared this era of rap to the late 80s, and said Kendrick Lamar is like the modern version of Rakim, while Drake is more like today’s MC Hammer.

He was speaking with Beats 1 this week when he corrected the host’s own comparison of equating Lamar as the modern day Rakim and calling Drake today’s Big Daddy Kane. “I want to fix that up a little bit. There’s a Rakim and there’s a Hammer,” said Flex when speaking about who Drake and Kendrick Lamar mirror. He went on to change his comparison. “[Drake’s] very popular. I want to get the comparison right. Because I don’t want anyone to get offended. Ok. I got it. There’s Rakim. And there’s Tone Loc. Everyone likes [Drake] and it sounds good in the car, but you know Rakim just had a different type of respect. And I like Kendrick and I like Drake, but you know, but I guess Kendrick just gets a different type of respect.” He followed that by joking about Obama saying he would bet Kendrick would beat Drake in a rap battle.

  1. But MC Hammer was actually an amazing performer. So no. Drake is more like Ja Rule or Nelly than anything else. Just way more successful.

  2. I don’t think this is a good comparison. But I’m sure the whole point of saying this was to shade Drake. But I said it when the whole Meek thing happened and I’ll say it again. Drake may have a lot of commercial success, but a lot of his peers and the legends don’t respect him. Maybe he doesn’t mind that but if you’re try to become a GOAT, that makes it harder to accomplish.

  3. Oh please! Drake has more money, better music and he breaks records left and right. Kendrick is not a damn threat and Drake is nothing like Bankrupt Hammer.

    1. Guess he would be corny because you can understand what he’s saying, don’t have his pants hanging off his a-s,nor disrespecting women and actually a great business man and constantly putting out good music. Yep, definitely corny..wtfe…but I’d take him being corny over half of the bulsh-t rappers out today..everyone knows funkmaster a-s is a b-tch for meek..all the bulsh-t Goin on with black men today and that’s the irrelevant bulsh-t he can stand for…whatever

      1. Girl huh? I never said I think Drake is corny. I just said that’s what Flex the Queen was alluding to. I’m more of a Kendrick and J Cole fan honestly though. But do you.

        1. Lol..was speaking on the fact that people(some) always refer to Drake as being corny etc..not stepping on your toes boo’. I think it’s fuked up the mindset of some people. .but hey nothin wrong with J.Cole..

  4. So Flex is saying Drake is corny because why??? cuz he raps about relationships? doesn’t talk about using drugs???? speaks about his moderate upbringing?? Oh and let’s not forget about Drake sending CTG some champagne. I’m sure Flex is mad about that….w/e you can’t take Flex serious when he was vouching for his bestie who has always disrespected women and was out there on a known tranny stroll, picking up trannies pretending he didn’t know they were trannies

  5. Notice that it’s mostly women who are Drake fans and putting on the cape to defend him on here. I don’t care for Flex because he’s a hater but that kind of illustrates his point. Real Hip Hop heads don’t take Drake seriously like they do Kendrick. It is what it is. Now Kendrick is a rapper that connects with both genders, he’s critically acclaimed, and his music has real messages. Drake probably won’t ever have that kind of success even though his money is longer. But I think I agree with IJS. A better comparison would be Nelly or Ja Rule. Both were really popular, had a lot of support commercially by women, but Hip Hop heads didn’t really respect them and still don’t. And another thing…it’s interesting to see women say they support Drake because he respects women in his lyrics when he really doesn’t. What does it matter if he doesn’t use the “b” word if he still refers to women as nothing more than a means to his s-xual pleasure and playthings? I mean you see how he treats women in his personal life. So how is he some respectable guy? Just my two.

    1. How is Drake disrespecting females in his personal life? If you know it’s about a fuk with Drake and you fuk Drake baby that’s on you not him..but whatever

    2. Say that!

“Stomach on flat flat, A-ss like ‘whats that'”…..(or however he says it)

In his verses he is very slick with his misogyny. There is no respect, y’all. Call a spade a spade. And this a more tame lyric!
