Chrisette Michele Loses An Opportunity

According to Page Six, Chrisette’s decision to perform at the Inauguration has caused Spike Lee to no longer consider using her music in his upcoming Netflix show based off his first film, “She’s Gotta Have It.”

Page Six writes:

Michele seemed to allude to the controversy Thursday on her blog , where she wrote: “We can’t be present if we’re silent.” She says she hopes for “peaceful & progressive conversation.” She adds that she doesn’t mind criticism if it allows her “to be a voice for the voiceless.” She used the hashtag NoPoliticalGenius.

Lee wrote on Instagram that he was sorry Michele was performing at the inaugural. He says he was considering using Michele’s “Black Girl Magic” in his upcoming Netflix series, “She’s Gotta Have It” but won’t anymore.

  1. I’m so tired of black people acting like they are doing something for the greater good of “black people”. Please just keep it real…just say you need the money or don’t say anything at all. I have to look at Chrisette and Steve Harvey with the side-eye. It’s ok to be out for the check but don’t play it off as “bridging a gap”. Stop serving us sh-t and calling it steak.

  2. Whomp she gained extra $$ in her bank acct…but she lost more than that……and then she came with some weak reason….like keep it 100 you wanted a check duh. Anyway her choice, her career down the hole.

  3. I don’t blame Spike one bit. So you are for Black Girl Magic but don’t mind being used by a known racist for some coins? Where’s the honor in that?

  4. This is why you don’t ever throw your own people under the bus. All money ain’t good money and all publicity ain’t good publicity (despite the saying).

  5. I want to know when did I/we give the approval for her to represent us or speak for us. If this is the case, then maybe she should have held a town hall country meeting with us and let us decide if she should be our voice.

  6. I don’t agree with Chrisette’s decision about the inauguration AT ALL. However, all forms of protest should be aimed at this administration, not each other. It’s one thing to criticize or disagree with a sister or brother about a move like this, another to penalize them for it. If Lee wanted her music on the project, it was because she is a talented performer. That hasn’t changed. We shouldn’t be focused on in-fighting at a time when we all should be unifying in the best interest of our culture and our country. Chrisette went left, but in her mind this was not an act of abandoning us. I still love her and will support her music even though I disagree with this particular decision.

  7. We are so sad as a people. I respect her not letting her so called “brothers and sisters” dictate what she does and does not do.

  8. Only black people lack a sense of pride like this. We are expected to support people like Chrisette who throw us under a bus? You will not see any other minority race with that mindset. Do you see Natives/Mexicans etc. shucking and jiving like this and singing at the inauguration? No! They are smarter than that and have pride. They are too busy organizing and putting money behind their passion. Look at the Jews! The gays! They get it. Look at all the progress they made. Do you think they made progress kissing up to racists and bigots? Absolutely not. Thank God most black people have enough sense to see a problem with what Chrisette did. We can’t progress as a race because some of us can be purchased! This is why we can’t get ahead!
