Salma Hayek Blames Journalist for Backlash over Comments Made to Jessica Williams

As we recently reported, Jessica Williams and several other actresses attended an industry lunch recently, and they talked openly about a variety of topics.

Everything was going fine until Jessica Williams attempted to discuss the obstacles black women face inside and outside of the industry.

That’s when Shirley MacLaine and Salma Hayek told her to stop being a victim.

Now that the backlash is getting thick, Salma has explained her side on Instagram.

She writes:

I am so sorry that I did not respond earlier to the feelings and valid concerns many of you have expressed in the last few days about a story that was published this weekend by the Los Angeles Times. I had not checked my phone through the weekend and only saw the article last night. I am deeply disturbed by the way this story has misrepresented me and manipulated my words in printing them out of context. We all believed we were in a forum to brainstorm about ways in which women in the industry could thrive and that was my heart’s intention. I have always and will always support the empowerment and the voices of black women and women of color. It is inaccurate that I did not let Jessica express herself, she very passionately and eloquently spoke her mind and I listened and engaged in what she was saying. In fact I was very disappointed that the conversation was cut short and not able to continue. I am devastated that something that left me feeling inspired and empowered has since been depicted as a cat fight, and worse yet painted in this way by a female journalist. Rest assured, I will right this wrong…

  1. She was better off not saying anything. How do you blame a journalist for reporting something you said? No one held a gun to Salma’s head and forced her to be an ignorant bigot. She did that on her own and rightfully got dragged for it.

  2. I wish she would shut her fake a-s up. This ain’t the first nor will it be the last time her dumb a-s was condescending to black folks. She thinks she made it because she has played the exact same role for 20 years (a slutty white Latina) and married a billionaire who likes impregnating other women on the side. F-ck her.

  3. When all else fails, blame the journalist for “manipulating” your words as if they did’t roll right out of your own mouth. Oh please.
