Bobby Brown is Livid About the Bobbi Kristina Biopic + New Edition Returns to Music Charts Following Biopic

According to TheJasmineBrand, TVOne is in the process of filming a biopic about the late Bobbi Kristina with some quality actress filling prominent roles:

TV One feels like they can tell her story in a way that will resonate with her fans. There’s so much about her life that some people didn’t know about – outside of the headlines. They think they can pull it off.

Casting has already begun, with sources telling us that Demetria McKinneywill play Bobbi Kristina’s late mother, Whitney Houston.

We’re also told that Vivica Fox has been cast as Pat Houston. Pat is Bobbi Kristina’s aunt and worked closely with Whitney before her death. Sources tell us that production for the biopic starts this month.

Well someone forgot to ask Bobby Brown, Bobby Kristina’s father and according to The Jasmine Brand, he is livid:

The rights were sold to the biopic before he had any knowledge of it. He was blindsided.

However, TV One has exclusive rights to tell this story and Bobby cannot say no as he has no control:

TV One doesn’t have to clear anything through him.

As a result of this backlash, Demetria McKinney responded in a now deleted Instagram post:

I have the utmost respect for whitney houston and those who have followed me through the years know that. I am NOT an opportunistic person and wouldn’t post, do, say, or be a part of anything that would diminish the light that she is nor the light of her life : BK. That’s part of the problem, we get emotionally charged over things we do not know or have a full understanding of. Even a criminal is innocent until proven guy so it’s only right that If a biopic is made and you choose to watch it, you pass judgement then.

Despite this news, Bobby does have some good news to celebrate.

New Edition records returned to the Billboard top 40 chart; the first time in over a decade Bobby and the group charted.

Billboard writes:

Following New Edition’s well-received BET biographical mini-series (Jan. 24-26) The New Edition Story, the group returns to the top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time in more than 10 years.

The vocal group’s hits compilation All the Number Ones, released in 2000, debuts at No. 37 on the tally, earning 12,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 2, according to Nielsen Music. The set boasts not just New Edition hits, but also solo smashes from the group’s individual members and spin-off trio Bell Biv DeVoe.

New Edition was last in the top 40 back in 2004 with One Love (debuting and peaking at No. 12). The act also rises 195-85 with its 1988 album Heartbreak (7,000 units; up 79 percent).

  1. Now I may have my issues with Bobby but he is 100% right to be upset. How dare TVOne exploit his baby girl’s death.

  2. Really Demetria? You can’t get over yourself for one second to understand how this may be messed up? People will do anything for a check these days. Morals be damned.

  3. I’m so happy for New Edition. And I’m with Bobby on this biopic foolishness. Bobbi was not a celebrity. She didn’t ask to be born to famous parents. Her life was hard enough as it is. So at least let her rest in peace.

  4. This is messy. It doesn’t matter if Bobby doesn’t have the right to say whether they film this or not. He’s that child’s only surviving parent and his wishes should be respected. I won’t be watching it. And Demetria is a loser.
