Naturi Naughton Talks ‘Empire’ Declining in Ratings + Former 3LW Manager’s Angry Tweets

Fans of “Empire” and “Power” know the comparisons have been going on for years.

And although most of the cast can agree that the shows are too different to be compared, Naturi feels the ratings decline “Empire” has been subjected to speaks volumes.

When asked about “Empire” declining in ratings while “Power” continues to increase in popularity, she tells Hot 97:

“For me, I would rather be on a show that has like a slow burn. Slow and steady as opposed to this bright comet that flashes in the sky and then dies.

“It’s really like just cause something shines doesn’t mean it’s gold. So you gotta put…and it’s nothing against ‘Empire’ and what they’re doing. They still seem to be enough successful on their network so it’s no shade to them. We’re different. We are totally different shows. We just happen to have some crazy diehard fans.

“And to buy Starz like you have to subscribe. You just can’t turn on channel five. You have to get Starz so that means our fans are dedicated.”

And when it comes to her former 3LW manager taking shots and making threats on Twitter recently, Naturi didn’t hold back:

“The clap back from my former manager…that’s the part that was just like really? I posted girl bye because it was just so much drama the next day like, ‘We never did anything to Naturi. I can’t believe Adrienne is apologizing. This is phony. This is fake.’

“And it’s just like she spent a lot of time…she had a lot of time on her hands to talk about that. I know what I went through and a lot of people who watched my journey from being a teen pop star. It was not an easy time. My self esteem…issues with my look. These are all real things. Post 3LW took years of recovery. So when people try to poo poo on it or people try to come back, you’re just trying to make yourself relevant again and feel better about the fact that you did wrong.”

  1. They are very different shows but it’s ok to say Power is better because it is. It doesn’t mean Power has no flaws but the writing is a hell of a lot better than any season of Empire. That’s for sure.
